Re: Fic Discussion - Jultz

Well, in that case you can always check point totals and TOI, but mainstream media right now is for the most part very biased to McDavid.

You could check those things, but a lot of people would argue that point totals and TOI do not actually tell you who the best forwards in a specific set of games are. That people disagree about these things, so that even someone who knows a lot about a specific team might not be getting details "wrong" so much as they just have a different viewpoint than yours.

IAWTC, it's not as if meme, and meme's choice of performance metrics in this case, is unbiased either. People tend to be really conveniently selective about what "objective" stats they'll cite to ~prove their biases are correct. I've literally seen, in the same conversation, someone argue Ovechkin was better than Malkin and Crosby combined in this year's Pens-Caps series because of point totals, but Kuznetsov was also really good because of advanced stats, his linemates just couldn't finish.

I haven't read too many stories where assessing someone's individual performance in x games was really that important though? I just don't see that come up. And what McDavid or another hockey player might think about it is up to artistic license.
