If you want encouragement for you WIP post here. If you prefer an accountability style thread post your target for the week and check in to see how you are doing.

If you are working on a fill, which you haven't started posting, and want some encouragement post here too.

I'm working on something angsty and I'm having troubles plunging in the dagger. I'm worried I won't be able to end it so I'm satisfied, but the angst is still pretty painful.

Mostly just a vent, I guess.

I have a couple angstier fics in the pipeline that I'm trying to keep from becoming OTT emo darkfic, but it's hard to strike a balance between realistic reactions to Bad Things and prolonged wallowing.

I feel this. I suspect I've ruined my last couple of fics with too much angst.

Uh, that's probably not too encouraging. Sorry. You can do it.

Similar here. I have one where I can't plunge in the dagger, and one that starts with the dagger so now I'm having trouble removing it.

You can do it, anon. And maybe twist the dagger a bit on the way out.

Goddamn it, I was driving home from work and had come up with a good way to remove dagger via twisting it painfully. AND NOW I FORGOT WHAT IT WAS.

FUCK. Mine is an evil fucking muse.

Angst is my favorite to write, and what's too much for me is just dependent on how I want a particular story to end. If I need a happy or at least hopeful ending, I know that I can write as much angst as I want, but I have to take the time to build everyone back up, and that will easily take 2-3x as long as the original angst piling.

Yeah, that's another worry. I'm not sure how to end it in a natural way. I don't want to end it abruptly, but there comes a point where I just go... I don't know what to do next?

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's all ways a pain trying to work out where and how to stop. I guess try for a point which makes sense to the focus of the story you are trying to tell. I have faith in you, anon.

ayrt

I usually know where I want the characters to end up, and I keep going until they are where I want them. So I'd think back to where your protagonist was at the beginning, and what their problem was. Most of the time, the story's done when they've solved that problem or realized that wasn't their problem after all and solved the real problem.

should we own up to our WIPs for accountability?

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't have to, just say how many words you are aiming for in say a week and then check back to say if you made it. If it'd work better for you to own up to your WIP then go for it.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

I started working on a fic about a (really ridiculous lol) comment thread we had on deke and I'm 4000 words in, but nothing much of the plot has happened yet, so now I'm paralysed by the fear that it will never end. :/
I considered posting it... somewhere as I go along, but I think that'd be even worse, ugh.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooo I've been considering writing a deke-inspired, most ridiculous story myself.

Why would it be worse if you posted it as a WIP?? Sometime the guilt/accountability of a posters WIP works for me.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the guilt would get to me, yeah. :/ Maybe it could work as motivation, but I'm trying to... keep my writing experience happy I guess? It was supposed to be my anti writers block story lol, but I should have known how that goes!

lol, what'd your ridiculous story be about (if you want to say)? :D

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll totally say. Because work is insane and I have a stupid summer cold and I'd much rather talk about ridiculous story ideas than deal with real life today.

So a million years ago we talked about how in all his interviews Dylan Larkin is boring AF. And not long after that conversation I watched Drive Me Crazy which is a super campy 90's movie with Sabrina the teenage witch and the guy from Entourage where the 2 main characters who live next door to each other date because of exterior motivation (she needs a date for a big event, he broke up with his long-term girlfriend.)

So I have this idea that the Wings tell Dylan that he needs to have a life and he goes to AA and cries to his college pals and Zach offers to date him because wtf ever they've been friends since they were kids and he can help a friend (or maybe some other reason that I haven't figured out). And then they fake date and have fun end up actually falling in love the end.

DA

That is a beautiful idea, nonnie, and I, for one, would read the shit out of that.

Also, I definitely read AA as Andreas Athanasiou at first, and had a glorious vision of what that love triangle would look like. Your idea is just as great, but now I have to clean off all the water I sprayed all over my laptop screen. (note to self: stop drinking while browsing the internet)

DA I have written deke inspired fic and it was a lot of fun.

I only tried posting a WIP once and it is the longest thing I have written but I kind of hated the experience and well, it has a failtastic ending because I needed it to be over. But I did learn a lot from it.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
One time I wrote a WIP and I was so annoyed because people kept correctly guessing what happened next. On one hand, at least I was good at building up to a certain thing, and that the thing was what the people wanted. On the other, I didn't like that people might've thought the feedback affected what I was already planning on writing, and overall thought the fic might've been a better experience if I'd put it out in one go.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT That could be annoying. I guess at least they didn't come up with ideas you liked better.

Even when I'm reading a WIP I always assume it's planned out, unless the author is literally asking people what they want to happen next.

I don't plan on ever doing it again.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I've posted WIPs on the kinkmeme before, but they were either

1. Short enough I could be confident of getting to the porn and getting it over with within a week or so, or

2. Very simple and linear, so even if there were a lot of words, there wasn't going to be anything I'd wish later that I'd known to weave into the earlier sections.

It can be really fun, when it works! It can be really stressful, though, too, especially if you're determined to finish. I do have several WIPs that I have straight-up abandoned (not on thesinbin, on other kinkmemes), and I feel a little bad but also I know I will never, ever finish them, sorry disappointed readers.

I'm about 3/4 done with a fill, but I'm afraid there's not much of an audience for it so I'm kind of :/ about finishing.

Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

(Anonymous) 2016-08-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Have faith there is always an audience! Even if it's like one person. :D

I've felt this way about every single thing I've posted in this fandom and have always been pleasantly surprised by the reaction I got, both on ao3 and on thesinbin. So finish it, I promise there's an audience who will love it!
