Re: Memebang- WIP encouragement

I'm working on something angsty and I'm having troubles plunging in the dagger. I'm worried I won't be able to end it so I'm satisfied, but the angst is still pretty painful.

Mostly just a vent, I guess.

I have a couple angstier fics in the pipeline that I'm trying to keep from becoming OTT emo darkfic, but it's hard to strike a balance between realistic reactions to Bad Things and prolonged wallowing.

I feel this. I suspect I've ruined my last couple of fics with too much angst.

Uh, that's probably not too encouraging. Sorry. You can do it.

Similar here. I have one where I can't plunge in the dagger, and one that starts with the dagger so now I'm having trouble removing it.

You can do it, anon. And maybe twist the dagger a bit on the way out.

Goddamn it, I was driving home from work and had come up with a good way to remove dagger via twisting it painfully. AND NOW I FORGOT WHAT IT WAS.

FUCK. Mine is an evil fucking muse.

Angst is my favorite to write, and what's too much for me is just dependent on how I want a particular story to end. If I need a happy or at least hopeful ending, I know that I can write as much angst as I want, but I have to take the time to build everyone back up, and that will easily take 2-3x as long as the original angst piling.

Yeah, that's another worry. I'm not sure how to end it in a natural way. I don't want to end it abruptly, but there comes a point where I just go... I don't know what to do next?

It's all ways a pain trying to work out where and how to stop. I guess try for a point which makes sense to the focus of the story you are trying to tell. I have faith in you, anon.

ayrt

I usually know where I want the characters to end up, and I keep going until they are where I want them. So I'd think back to where your protagonist was at the beginning, and what their problem was. Most of the time, the story's done when they've solved that problem or realized that wasn't their problem after all and solved the real problem.
