Backstrom getting any trophy basically is my wish every season it feels like and every season people keep telling me he's just not good enough, ugh. I need a year to finally be his year!

I, too, think there should be an award for the specific stat in which my fav has higher numbers than the other players.

It might actually be fun to have a thread with superlatives/fake awards and who we'd nominate. A sexier version of Fallon's Stanley Cup Superlatives.

I'd actually really love that. I love silly made up awards and we could probably come up with some oddly specific or out-there ones.

*eyeroll* Nicklas Backstrom is not my fave. Also, I haven't actually looked the numbers, but I very much doubt that he has higher numbers than any other player. I'd guess that would actually be Joe Thornton. I suggested it, because I do think there's a lack of recognition at the trophy level for playmakers. It is an actual important component of winning hockey games. This thread reminded me of this thought I have had before, as Backstrom is someone who could be competitive for such a trophy. Cripes.

Thanks for looking that up! That is really cool info. I had no idea that Blake Wheeler would be so high. I can't (without looking at a roster) even remember off of the top of my head who the top line is in Winnipeg.

Right? I'm hoping the ASG was step 1 to getting the trophies. I feel like he needs to shoot more for people to take notice of how good he is because playmaking and racking up assists are just not doing the job.

I do appreciate that Ovie and Trotz are leading the Nicky Is Also GR8!! campaign, though. :D

Shhh. Jesus Backstrom Christ is the eternally underrated martyr.

And I'm not sure why they're complaining about that; the less people notice him, the less they notice how he disappears in the playoffs.

First of all, why is it so terrible that a couple of Caps fans would like to see one of their guys get an award (that this meme regularly decries as bullshit anyway)? Nobody jumped on the fans who want Crosby or Malkin to win yet another Hart or Art Ross or for Kopitar to win a thing or the ones who want nice things for fucking Taylor Hall or Dustin Brown (who I personally loathe, but hey, he's got fans, I guess)

Then suddenly it's like, ugh, don't even mention Backstrom, you circlejerky whiners. What the fuck? Hate him, the Caps, and all their fans all you want but these kinds of OTT comments are why this meme has such a rep for being full of assholes and wankers.

You making it sound like the only reason Backstrom hasn't been racking up those awards is because people just haven't noticed how wonderful he is!! is not precisely a "hot button issue," but obviously going to draw some eyerolls from people who don't agree. You following up your comments with whining about how people are being so mean to you for liking Backstrom just feeds into the impression of there being a ridiculous victim complex about Backstrom in fandom. If you're hoping for Backstrom to win the Hart, hope that he has a Hart-worthy season. (And ffs if you want Tom Wilson to ~redeem himself in fandom's eyes, hope that he stops being a dirty player instead of making it sound like the problem is with people's perception. More of the same.)

Yes, I was very pleased about the ASG thing, too! Even though it was mostly because Crosby for once wasn't invited and I don't think that'll happen again, lol.

I'm not a fan of Trotz in general, but I do appreciate his ongoing Nicky campaign!
