The kind you've listed there are law enforcement officers, some of them specifically with New York (as opposed to rangers from the National Park Service), like the New York State Forest Rangers.

But according to the Rangers' website, the name comes from sportswriters calling the players "Tex's Rangers" as the Garden president was assembling the team.

I know the forest rangers and the national park rangers are law enforcement officers, but outside of that? The answer is probably no, then, which makes Tavares in this fic to be very aggravating.

Okay. Now I understand what the "Texas Ranger effect" is. Because that role just doesn't make sense.

ayrt Ah, sorry, I missed that part. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a specific Texas Ranger equivalent among the various types of NY law enforcement officers. (And it looks like there are only, huh, 5 state forest rangers to cover Long Island and NYC.) But, yeah, Tavares doesn't quite make sense here.
