Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

From: (Anonymous)
I haven't read it, I just want to know why. Why this. Where is the audience for this?

I assume the audience is the author and the five people in fandom who care about the Wild. I'm just impressed by how long it is.

DA

As the meme's resident Wild anon, I'd only be reading it out of morbid curiosity. (But then, I'm a Wild fan who generally doesn't like bestliars' writing, let alone when it's apparently about the damn beat writer.)

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

*sigh*

I will read it because I love the Wild and there's such a dearth of content for them as a team. Also I enjoy Russo - though I also enjoy imagining his absolutely stank face if he knew how he featured in some Wild fic.

So maybe the answer is - who will read it, all of us who don't have anything else to read. She's not a bad writer, I'd say she's very self-indulgent, but why the fuck would you be anything but self-indulgent in this situation.

Her writing style doesn't work for me sometimes so I've only read some of her stuff, but I admire anyone who keeps on keeping on with writing less popular teams and ships. I wish I could buckle down and do the same for my team.

ayrt

I read it. And have returned to provide meme with a review.

To quote the eternal Randy Jackson. It was just OK for me dawg. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite either. Her Russo voice isn't as biting as I wanted it to be - but I did enjoy the kind of Wild retrospective that it provided.

I just read the first half of it and found it okay but dull. Are there any other player/journalist stories out there? The only one I can think of is WeagleRock's one where Crosby becomes a journalist and covers Ovechkin, but that's obviously au.

Why wouldn't there be audience for it? Just because it has a reporter. One of the popular fics in this fandom is about a trainer. Are you new?

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

From: (Anonymous)
You're right, people in fandom are just lining up to read fics about Josh Yohe and Mark Lazerus. My mistake.

I must be new because I have no idea what you mean by "one of the popular fics".

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

I know you're being sarcastic. But I stopped watching the Hawks long ago and I still adore Mark Lazerus and wish he was on my teams beat. His brand of snark is 100% my jam.

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

From: (Anonymous)
I still follow Lazerus on Twitter because I find him entertaining, even though I don't follow the Hawks anymore. Agreed with wishing he would come over to my team.

Welcome to the fandom then!

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

FWIW, I've been in fandom for... three years? and I have no clue what fic they're talking about. I don't remember any fics about trainers, let alone anything "popular".

The only one I remember with a trainer is Evgeni Malkin/Mike Kadar. https://archiveofourown.org/works/1012374

I love that fic. And yeah, it gets recced around pretty regularly, I think, at least in Pens fandom.

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

that was a good read iirc. i wish they would have at least kissed or something at the end though.

planning to read the koivu/russo for shits and giggles. i read fast so it's not like a huge investment of my time if it *doesn't* work for me.

Re: Fic Discussion - looking for a good story

This really did not work for me at all. The "on the record / off the record" shtick could have been fun if the ratio of the latter to the former had been like 5 to 1, but was it was, I could never get rolling with the narrative because the pieces were so short and switched back and forth between modes so often. They mostly weren't even dramatized scenes, just a summary of what happened.

Yeah I think I mostly didn't mind the fic but this is probably what I disliked the most.
