This is not so much a vent as it is a lament. But I'm currently involved in a fic exchange that I was really happy about until I snooped on my gift recipient's blog (to try and include some more of their likes in the story) and found out they're a hardcore PKane supporter.

I know, I know. That's the risk you run etc etc. But the blatant support bothers me. It really does. The exchange is for a completely different team so I figured I was safe?

But am I completely naive? Whinging for nothing? I just... It bothers me and I have no-one I can really share this with because my beta says I need to suck it up and get over it.

I have plenty of sympathy when it's warranted. I just think it's naive of you to expect that your recipient will live up to your expectations of them, fandom is diverse and people will ship what they ship, whether that is something you like or not.

I just don't think it's realistic to project your own thinking onto someone else (someone you don't know) and then be disappointed when they don't live up to them.

Is it really so naive when it's a team-specific exchange that prohibits the mention of Kane? But I see where you're coming from even though I feel your expression is poor.

Ah, that is disappointing, nonny. I understand how you feel - having a recip who creeps you out can really suck the fun out of an exchange. Unfortunately I think there's no way around it.

Thanks. I guess I was looking for someone who did understand my plight. You're right, of course. There's no way around it. I agreed to the exchange after all. So I've got to do what I promised I would.

I would be bothered too.

Try not to think about it and just write something you aren't embarrassed to put your name on. Just think about the other team instead.

Or default. It's an option if you really can't make yourself write for them.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, your recipient probably didn't want a Kane hater writing their gift just as you don't want to write it.

Just grit your teeth, ignore it, and try to focus solely on the exchange request.

By this I assume you mean all the people who still think Kane is a good person despite all the evidence that suggests otherwise. Yes, they do have difficulty dealing with reality!

This is exactly the kind of behavior from Kane supporters makes people feel unsafe around Kane supporters. It doesn't take believing that Kane 100% for sure did it to see how this is a horrible, harmful way to act.

Regardless of whether or not the accusation is true, it doesn't make this comment any less of rape-apologist victim-blaming sack of shit. Tell me more about how someone's "previous record" means it's misguided to believe them when they report a rape. Tell me more about how no one has ever been charged with something they didn't do, no rape victim has ever been charged with false testimony, no DA has ever used their ability to press or not press charges in a less than judicious way.
