And it didn't help that M/M Rares went over schedule and opened the collection a couple of days late. That delay just resulted in more time for more hype/expectations to be amped up even further.

Overall, it's just kind of discouraging for cross-sports ships. I'll definitely be more tentative about requesting one in the future.

What kind of cross sports ships are you looking to see? I'm always down for marginal players finding refuge in one another.

Personally I'd love some Giroux crossover fic, but I don't understand why Giroud over someone on the Eagles or the 76ers. He looked pretty cute next to JJ Watt, even.

Because Frenchness and name shenanigans and name jokes--which were half the reason I shipped this. I wanted name jokes!

Well I was a fervant Giroux/Giroud enthusiast (that could probably still could be salvaged by a well done fic), and I liked all the talk about Sidney Crosby/Aaron Rodgers in past deke threads.

But I also agree with you about the appeal of marginal/lesser known players finding solace in someone from a different sport but similar situation.

It's that different-yet-similar dynamic that makes the idea of cross sports ships incredibly interesting to me. Like, players may not be aware of the super specific/inner details of their partner's sport, but there are many things universal about sports so there are many general commonalities. They understand the competitive drive to win and be the best, the desire to fit in and belong with the guys, the pressures of fame, the responsibilites of leadership and being a good teammate, the devastation of injuries, the fickle nature of contract negotiations etc etc

I too want Crosby/Rodgers, for all the reasons you mentioned - and because they would have somewhat, but not entirely overlapping seasons, and so there could be long-distance relationship stuff and pining and confused but supportive teammates, etc.

Wasn't someone doing this for Bennett and....baseball? Did that ever get posted?

It's a WIP at the kinkmeme currently. It hasn't been updated in a while.

The kinkmeme is where promising WIPS go to die (says someone who is guilty of this themselves and absolutely should not be throwing stones in glass houses).

this comment has guilted me into working on the fill that I started posting last week, so you're doing some good in the world, nonny.

(I would be? But my only unfinished fill was because I wanted to do vignettes as parts. The part(/s) I posted stand well on their own.)

Maybe also including prompting? Prompting at the kinkmeme has been nearly dead for months.

don't worry, i've also guilted myself into opening up one of my unfinished fills and poking at it...it's been so long though that one of the major supporting characters are no longer with the team, oops.

I'm so up for a finish your WIP fest. The one I've been staring at was inspired by a prompt but I haven't started posting it, does that count?

Nonnie who is writing the fill - there's a lot more of it, like 7 or 8k, but it began working better as original fiction than as fic, so I'm trying to rework it, and am stuck on a plot point, arg. I wish there were a way to post it anonymously to get feedback (beyond the kinkmeme, which I don't feel I have control over), since I'm not sure it works at all.

Perhaps you could ask if a nonnie would look over it for you and give you their thoughts, just make a burner email.

There are Anon collections at AO3 where you post stuff anonymously.

Or I don't know if it would be any better, but you could post bits of it in the WiP thread at FFA?

These are all good thoughts. I mostly just need to sit down and write it, but I may ask for someone to look over it as well. And a quick review on tsb pinboard says I have like 10 unfinished, multipart WiPs there. Whoops.

I still want any random NHL player/any random NBA player, especially if they share an arena. They just keep bumping into each other! Not at all on purpose! They swear!

Staples has like four teams. Someone do a NBAx2/NHL/WNBA ship.

Same arena/ownership + name shenanigans was the entire reason I wanted Ivory Latta/Michael Latta. There could have been such a great get-together fic based on some hapless Monumental intern fucking up and sending them each other's fanmail or messing up scheduling for their PR appearances :(
