#26 — Vanek! with a Jurco

This is the twenty-sixth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

Nick Cannon was in love with Miriah Carey when he was a kid (posters on his wall style) and then married her later. Maybe Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes is another similar comparison if you do your best to forget the fact that Katie was prob paid to be married to creepster Tom Cruise.

Hero worship transforming to actual relationship weirds me out personally.

This is why Crosby/MacKinnon (and Duchene/Roy) skeeves me out and I will never ship them.

Duchene/Roy works for me in a power struggle/dirtyhotwrongness kind of way. But yea. The hero worship/teen crush becoming reality doesn't work for me.

I always figured the skeeviness was a feature of Duchene/Roy and not a bug.

Actually, maybe that does explain some of the hatred of Crosby/MacKinnon. People don't want to read about Crosby being a skeevy perve.

Or at least, not that *that* kind of skeevy perve.

I would honestly be all over Sid/Nate starring Sid the skeevy perv. Sid/Nate by itself is a bit boring for me, but if you throw in just a dash of Wrong with a capital w, then oh man, I am right back in that.

I just got a really strong urge to write pwp of Crosby the Egomaniac, who only fucks people who are fanatically in love with him and watches himself in the mirror the whole time. And then my self-preservation kicked back in.

Now I'm just imagining Crosby and Seguin fucking in a room full of mirrors, each trying half-heartedly to pretend that they care about the wants and needs of the other.

It's not that dynamic, but I did enjoy disarm_d's Crosby/Seguin/Toews story that was posted in the last week http://archiveofourown.org/works/7956748

(I think I would have enjoyed it even more if it was Crosby/Seguin/Weber, but that's not something wrong with the story, just that Crosby/Weber is a Team Canada hookup that intrigues me).

she wrote one of my favorite fics of all time in another fandom, so this is kind of exciting for me.

I liked her bandom fic and will probably read her hockey fic, out of boredom if for no other reason, but a quick glance at the fic and her tumblr turned up so many of my pet peeves that I'm too irritated to be enthusiastic.

As the person who chimed in with the Nick/Miriah comparison I honestly didn't know there was tons of hate for Sid/Nate. It's just always been a little too hero worshipy for me. Also I'll be shipping Nate/Jo otp4ever so there can be no one else.

I don't think there are tons of hate. I think there's a few people who are sensitive to any hate. I mean, I don't think it's any worse than the people who say they can't stand the Two Gallys ship, for example.

I don't have any strong feelings about MacKinnon or either of the Gallys, but I don't really get that comparison. People who don't like the Gallys like Galchenyuk and dislike Gallagher, and even for someone who's indifferent to both of them, it's pretty obvious why other people would feel that way.

People have explained ad nauseum why they aren't into MacKinnon too, but people keep saying it must be more than that.

No one's wondering why more people aren't into MacKinnon. People are wondering why S/G fans hate him and Sid/Nate. A small handful of people disliking the Gallys pairing (compared to how many people ship it) is unsurprising considering Gallagher is a pest on-ice and has had "problematic" things off-ice pointed out by fandom.

I feel like (but am too lazy to google) that there were also some really skeevy interviews that he did after he started dating her about how much he loved her when he was young.
