THE RULES

I'm aware of that (or at least of that interview, where his mom said that he was going to get the Russian equivalent of one soon-ish).

It's actually more like somewhere between a doctorate and a masters (in the American system at least). It's the equivalent of a PhD in a system where a PhD isn't the highest level graduate degree.

Well, you literally said differently, there's no way that anyone could tell that by "doctorate" you meant "not a doctorate."

I just didn't want them to feel like they need to re-post. I meant that I am aware of the difference in post-graduate systems, not that I literally agreed with the assessment that its between a master's and a doctorate in the US system.

He has a doctorate. The Russian ministry education guidelines are that the Kandidat nauk should be treated as equivalent to a doctorate in countries that only have one doctorate level, and most US universities follow that guideline.
