I agree, especially in Drouin's case, because he's not a part of either of the two main groups we know about, with him kind of floating out there by himself not having gone through the AHL first.

A bit of a tangent, but does Drouin have any friends on the Lightning or the Crunch? Given all the weirdness, I'm wondering if he had time to make any.

Before last season, he was with the Lightning nearly the entire 2014-15 season, too. (I think he missed October is all.) He had plenty of time to make friends, although, I've never actually heard about him hanging out with anyone.

Killorn's like a big brother to him and they train together during the summer.

Killorn: "I have a special bond with Jonathan. I've known him since he was 12." / "Now we live in the same complex in Tampa and we play for the same NHL team."

(And now they both train with Joseph Veleno.

Veleno: "I want to become just like him.")

(He's not a teammate, but Duclair's a friend and they train together during the summer too.

http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2016/03/30/une-oreille-pour-drouin

Killorn: "I talked to him often, but I didn't force him to do anything. It wasn't my place to tell him you have to do this or not do this. Everybody wanted him to come back. I told him we would welcome him with open arms." / "I know the veterans would be happy to see him back. He's a good guy, he's nothing like a 'bum'."

Re: Ask Meme

Killorn seems to be good with 90% of the team, which I suspect is at least part of the reason why Yzerman kept him around for 7 more years. Friendship is the best intangible.

Killorn was very good to me in Fantasy Hockey a couple of years back, and I have a fondness for him because of it.

Oh, I have loads of fondness for him. Some fans were questioning why he got so much $$/such a long extension, but I'm not mad about it. If you haven't I would suggest reading this article-http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hockey/lightning/harvard-grad-killorn-makes-mom-proud-with-degree-lightning/2230628 which includes the charming quote "Cindy once told Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman her son was one injury away form 'driving the Zamboni.' Yzerman, a Hall of Fame player, politely replied, 'Come on, I think that's a bit of an exaggeration."

Re: Ask Meme

OMG, that's an adorable article, thank you. I really like that Yzerman let him attend his graduation even though it was during the AHL playoffs. That's awesome.

Yeah, I imagine it's especially tough for him because the two groups seem split into Olds (but not actually old, Stamkos and Hedman are 25 and 26) and Youths, but all of the youths that he could potentially get along with are super loyal to Cooper, and he had major issues with Cooper and how much ice time he was giving him. They seem mostly over that now, but who knows if that was an obstacle to any friendship time bonding. I certainly hope he has friends, lol. He can hang with the Russians! (who I suspect are their own group, with Namestnikov kind of floating in between since he speaks the most English)

NA

I hate all of drouin's draft era interviews So Much, and while I can allow that he almost certainly has to be different in the room/on the ice and that hockey dudes have different standards for who's fun to hang out with than I do, I would also 100% believe it if someone told me that drouin is just bad enough at people that he's all ego and bluster and fucking terrible at making friends until someone more gregarious reaches out to him first and makes him chill.

Re: Ask Meme

This is so odd. What do you hate about his interviews?

I'd say his best were with Mackinnon, I think he brings out his personality way more. (To be fair Mackinnon kind of does that with everyone.) But his solo ones just made him seem like a quiet kid with not much to say.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, I'm just talking about his solo interactions with press. Just something about his tone in the first few I watched put me totally against him in a way that, for instance, none of this year's draftees did when they were evaluating their own game.

As for the ones with MacKinnon being good, that's precisely my point.
