Kucherov isn't happy with some of the team and didn't think he developed chemistry with linemates after Stamkos got injured

Clearly more liney threesomes required.

I imagine the comments about some of them getting their money and stopping putting effort in are going to make things a little awkward next season.

are there any tampa fans here who have an idea who he's talking about?

Some people on the /r/hockey thread were naming names. I haven't watched Tampa too much, so I can't say how wrong/right they were.

A ton of players got new contracts this summer but most people think he's talking about Killorn. The other big contracts were Stamkos and Hedman and Hedman had a career year...

Not really, so don't take this as any kind of for sure, but the bit about getting the money so now he doesn't work as hard makes me think it might be Killorn, he signed a really long fairly big contract last summer. I didnt watch a ton of games this year so I don't know how he played over the whole year but he's my guess.

Not a Tampa fan, but his most frequent linemates (aside from Namestikov & Stamkos), have been Tyler Johnson (and I've actually heard a lot of rumblings that it's time for Johnson to walk/Tampa won't re-sign him, but his contract is up and he's had a lot of injuries), Brayden Point (Point is rookie, I think, so I doubt he'd be in the made-his-money-and-doesn't-care category), Ondrej Palat (Palat's play has gone down, but it's hard to say if that's because he doesn't care or because he's was playing above his talents and has now come back to earth — he was a 7th-rounder after all, plus he's only got another year on his contract), and Alex Killorn (who is signed for another 6 years, so my money's on him).

He had a lot of praise for Point in his exit interview this year, so it's not him. It probably is Killorn, but I found his other comments about line mates basically not being able to keep up with him surprising if he is talking about Johnson and Palat. That line was known for their chemistry in the past but I guess it is possible that he's gotten better than them. At least he liked Stamkos.

Apparently Stralman said something similar at the end of the year:

Makes me wonder about the management if all this is being hinted at publicly. If nothing else that's the coach's job to keep everyone motivated, right?

Cooper has always played favorites. It's not surprising that the players he gives a free pass to would start getting lazy.

Which players do you see him giving a free pass too?

da

I thought it was a pretty common perception (esp. during the Drouin situation) that he favored the kids who played for him in Norfolk/Syracuse. Specifically the ones who played for him when they won the Calder Cup.

Someone in hockey media always called them "Coops Troops"

AYRT

I'm familiar with Coops Troops. There's a difference between being more comfortable with certain players because you know their strengths and weaknesses versus giving someone a free pass. Jon Cooper has been with the Lightning as long as he was HC in Norfolk/Syracuse now. I don't know that his views of the team are still stuck on the players he was close to four years ago in the AHL the way it was. In any case, I wanted to know who the anon was implying were getting a free pass.

They've put up an actual real translation (not google translated) version of the Kucherov article here: http://www.rawcharge.com/2017/4/27/15449538/nikita-kucherov-tampa-bay-lightning-interview-with-sovsports-ru-full-translated-text

Some guys have stayed too long on the team. They’ve got money and stopped working. They knew there was no competition for their positions, and the organization was not going to take someone else. They did not play really well this season. You can see it in their stats. When we played together and I made a pass, they were not expecting it. That’s why this season was hard for me despite good stats.

Yikes, he's not beating around the bush.

I mean, he's not wrong. Also, how many times does that interviewer have to compare Vasi with Bob?
