Does anyone have a primer for the Rangers? Or any other useful links in that vein? :)

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I can look, but if not I'll write something up :)

Re: Ask Meme

That would be stellar, nonnie! :D And even if you can just point me to some good articles or videos, that'd be great. I just feel a little lost because I'm so unfamiliar with them.

DA

I don't know a whole lot about the Rangers, but "Stepan Behind the Mic" is a fun series! It should be on Youtube, IIRC.

Re: Ask Meme

Nayrt - I don't follow rangers or their social media at all, so I am no use on, say, cute videos of lineys with dogs, if such a thing exists, or who their points leaders the past three years were, but I like the episodes of Beginnings for background player info http://www.msgnetworks.com/shows/beginnings/

Seconding the anon below who said the Stepan Behind the Mic series! Boys in Blueshirts is also fun, as is Jimmy Vesey and Brady Skjei's (terrible) apartment tour. Unfortunately a lot of primers are out of date at this point. Kevin Hayes and Henrik Lundqvist also wrote Players Tribune articles fairly recently.

sa

This is also entertaining, and almost everyone listed is still on the roster (no more McIlrath or Jooris):http://blueseatblogs.com/2016/10/10/funniest-new-york-rangers-gifs-pics-videos/

Re: Ask Meme

Thanks you! And everyone else that answered, thank you to! :)

I'll definitely start with the suggestions, they sound really fun. It's too bad the Rangers seem so fandom unpopular, but then again maybe I've also been part of the problem lol.

Re: Ask Meme

This feels like a stupid question, but the Rangers have to have cars, right? The usual worldbuilding scoffs hard at anyone in NYC owning a car, but it's not like they couldn't afford it and I can't imagine them lugging their gear around on the subway.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
IIRC their practice rink is up in Westchester, so a lot of them carpool from Manhattan.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
They probably do, but I kind of doubt they drive in the city much. Like all rich New Yorkers they probably take cabs/uber everywhere. They also might live close enough to MSG to walk to games.
(also all their gear lives at the rink, they don't have to "lug" anything)

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Makes sense. I guess it doesn't matter for fic purposes, but now I'm curious- do they have two sets of gear for the practice rink and their actual arena, or does transporting them fall under equipment managers' job description?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
na Wouldn't they still have to bring the things they take on road trips, though? At least to the airport?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
So antidote but my super wealthy relatives in NYC(Manhattan) all own a car, they don't really use it unless they're leaving Manhattan but they'll drive if they're going to Queens or Brooklyn or have a lot of stuff to transport

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I think they take public transportation to the rink and have a car service to get home. That's how it works for the Isles I believe.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
That's how it works for the Isles because they all live on Long Island, whereas I think a lot of the Rangers live in either Westchester or Manhattan. There's also a huge parking problem at Barclays so driving there is basically the most difficult route you can take. This is why they all hate it there and complain about 82 away games.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
AFAIK the Rangers live in Manhattan, Westchester, or Greenwich CT. It's pretty easy to get to MSG from there.

Barclays pretty much has no parking, and I doubt any will get added any time soon, since so much of that neighborhood is residential.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Isn't Barclays not inviting the Isles back anyway?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Maybe, maybe not. I could be wrong on this part, but I believe that they are stuck for another year before they can opt out of renewing the lease.

However, I do know for sure that the company that owns Barclays wants the Islanders money and they don't want the Islanders to build a competing arena. The company also owns Nassau, and is apparently preparing a pitch to get the Islanders back there.

Re: Ask Meme

There will also likely be issues with the state if they try and build an arena in Queens or Belmont.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I've seen a fair number of them (and then creeper photos taken by others) on the subway, especially the trains on the west side. I also remember an r/hockey post of about six players in game day suits on the Metro North. For postgake at MSG a lot use car services, and Zuccarello lives? lived? a few blocks from MSG. In an interview he said he walked home from games.

This just came across my dash, as a decent start point.
