I don't trust DOPS to do anything, but to me that's several games.

It's never several games in the playoffs, unless the player has a history of suspension. Most playoff suspensions are 1 game only.

Orpik got a 3 game suspension for his hit on Maatta in 2016 playoffs (Olli was injured by the play, which may have influenced things).

Injury on the play + repeat offender. Otherwise it would have been 1 or 2 games.

It's actually looking like just a fine:

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Things could certainly change, but the sense right now is that Calvert may avoid a suspension. Perhaps get fined.

I had forgotten how much I hate playoff DoPS.

Even better:

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: I think sense with DOPS is that sticks break so easily... still, I disagree. I think it's worth a suspension.

Love to see the NHL bring this logic into the courtroom. "But brains scramble so easily, Your Honor."

DOPS is completely delusional. Even if the crosscheck wasn't unusually forceful there's still the fact that he hit the guy again for no damn reason right afterward.

ayrt

Exactly, for me the hit afterwards is the most egregious part, he literally doubled back in order to ram himself into Kühnhackl's head. Plus the fact that the whole thing was miles away from play, with the game virtually over, there's no way to interpret that as an attempt at a hockey play or anything other than attempt to injure.

Well, looks like he's getting a hearing at least:

We'll see.

It's one game for Calvert.
