Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)I understand the fans on Tumblr are super obnoxious (which is why I don't go there) but you all are making it sound like they aren't allowed to be happy about anything. Everyone thought they were massive underdogs going in, of course they're going to be thrilled not to be steamrollered by the number one team.

From: (Anonymous)Eh, maybe. I still think there's a difference between "fuck the [insert team]!" and complaining about another fanbase's "smugness" in the most condescending way possible when you're the huge favorite and they're just happy it's even a competition.

From: (Anonymous)Right? What fanbase is going to look at a series they are unexpectedly competitive in and say, "Wow, our opponents sure are playing badly, lucky us!"
And besides, this idea that the Caps are the only team on the ice whose performance affects the result is kind of obnoxious. There's always two teams in a game.
Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)The main problem is that non-Leafs fans tend to be sick and tired of hearing abou the Leafs by December. Them doing well in the playoffs is basically the worse case scenario for those of us who would really like hockey media to talk about somebody fucking else once in awhile.
They might be a plucky underdog story, but they're the kind of plucky underdog character that viewers want to strangle just to make them shut the fuck up.
Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)I hope you're not saying the people giving pushback in this thread are Leafs fans? I'm not. I also haven't heard about them that much, tbh - I've seen way more complaining about Leafs fans on deke than I've seen or heard actual Leaf discussion anywhere else. Maybe it depends on what market you're in? And also who you follow on Tumblr, obviously.

From: (Anonymous)I mean, I get it! I agree! I was honestly hoping they'd lose out and just miss the playoffs. No one's obligated to like them just because they're the underdog, I just think it seems a bit much to act like it's so offensive of them to be happy, when if you're a Caps fan, your team is still so much more likely to win the series. Idk it seems un-self aware and mean in a punching-down way to me, but I'm not going to die on a hill about this defending Tumblr's Leafs fans lol.

From: (Anonymous)I had to look up what "bitch eating crackers" meant and nonnie, I'm laughing!!! I mean, obviously an essential part of sports fandom that you have fun irrationally hating the teams you hate, I just didn't think some of the remarks made came off quite like that, but whatever, maybe if I spent more on hockey Tumblr I'd feel the same.
Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)I'm not a Caps fan. I'm not even a fan of an eastern team.
Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)It was meant as a general "you," not you specifically, since you marked yourself as a DA responding to my first comment. Sorry that wasn't clearer. I was just responding to your reasoning about your feelings with my own, I wasn't trying to accuse you of any sort of ~bad behavior.

From: (Anonymous)Part of it is that the most annoying Leafs fans I know, on tumblr and IRL, are the ones who just started being Leafs fans within the last year or so. The ones who picked up the Leafs when they got cute and young and successful.
I don't want to be that anti-bandwagon, anti-new fans, anti-multi-team-fans grump but it's ten times worse coming from people who haven't earned the right to be that smug and obnoxious about the team's success.

From: (Anonymous)I'm not a Caps fan.
Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)Also not the other anon who had to clarify that they also weren't a Caps fan. Are we not allowed to say anything critical about Leafs fans without announcing any and all potential conflicts of interest and team affiliations first?

From: (Anonymous)Re: Game day thread April 15, 2017
From: (Anonymous)Eh, the Caps influx has been happening for awhile now, and the new fans have had time to acclimate. I'm sure Baby's First Season Caring About the Caps was tedious for a fair amount of people, too. The newest fans of any given team get there eventually, but if you stick out as a very loud and very new voice, it's not like people aren't going to notice.

From: (Anonymous)It's not that their fans aren't allowed to be happy, it's that so many of their fans expect everyone else to praise them, too.
