Re: Fic Discussions - Remix

The Tower of Babel one is the one I meant. It's based on a Biblical reference, obviously, but by way of a short story by Ted Chiang.

I also just finished reading the Goddamn King remix. That's a case where both the original and the remix are pretty well-written, but I think I like the remix better. I think Tanner's emotional state made an outside POV work better for his story, and I liked all the development Tyler got in the remix.

AYRT - Ah, I only got the biblical reference I wasn't aware of the short story. There were some nice descriptions in there, but, it was certainly lacking in romance. Perhaps it could have done more to explore trying to communicate to a lover without words.

I enjoyed the remix more, because you did get more of Tyler and I am not a big fan of second person, so I struggled a bit with the original.

I liked 'Maybe if you're good', because it did give you some insight into the Pearson/Toffoli dynamic and how they ended up together.

ayrt Yeah, I feel like when you change the entire setting AND the basic plot of the story, that might be too much remixing. Or at least, what you end up with is less "remix of" and more "inspired by." I hadn't gotten to Maybe if You're Good yet. I will give it a shot.

AYRT - Now I have read Everyday electricity it's an interesting comparison. It took the characters from one story to the setting of another, but it kept the basic motivations of the characters. So for me it still makes sense as a remix, even though it's had a pretty major change.
