Re: Fic Discussions

I really liked that one, too, for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned. Sphesphe's Milena *worked* for me in ways that genderswaps don't always.

(The girl!DStrome electrumqueen one was maybe a B- imo. I remember being "wtf is up with the Strome/Marner?" and having pretty mixed feelings in bad ways about it.)

Everything I've read/seen of strome in rl is that he's something of a jokester, and electrumqueen's take on him (admittedly made a while ago while the majority of this info was not there, since a lot of it is in articles about coyotes rookies like this https://www.nhl.com/news/coyotes-bet-big-on-rookies-for-future-success/c-283444064) is as very serious- like they took the "hockey encyclopedia" bit to heart and soul but completely left out the bit of a clown part.

I think mileage varies a lot depending on familiarity with the people involved (going in with 0 knowledge of the actual people I actually liked their fics a lot, until I learned more and they wrote that one that I literally couldn't enjoy because they seemed to think the Seattle Thunderbirds actually played in Seattle and because it had a throwaway line about not knowing what the heck thunderbirds were) and willingness to tolerate high levels of angst
