#29 – Lay, Lie, or Laine?

This is the twenty-ninth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I'd like to propose the possibility of Backstrom/Oshie, Ovechkin/Oshie, Burakovsky/Wilson, Backstrom/Burakovsky, Holtby/Schmidt. I could go on :D

It's more like, do I feel like I have enough of a handle on the dynamics of all of these ships?

You might notice I'm pretty insecure lol. Writing for an exchange is always a little tricky for me anyway and even more so if I don't feel like I know what I'm writing about.

Well, there aren't really that many Caps ships that have an established fandom dynamic. They're pretty much Ovechkin/Backstrom and the brobeans and possibly Oshie/Carlson. So if you're writing anyone else, you'd just end up doing some team research and then inventing the fictional ship dynamic for yourself. And new takes are fun and refreshing in any case.

+1--it's very freeing when you realize that you're either the first to be writing about this person or one of the few who have written about it. There's no argument about your take from other writers. It's all new.

(although, admittedly, it can be very lonely)

I haven't found it lonely the few times I've been the first/among the first. Just a little annoying when I wanted to read fic for x pairing, and there was one ficlet from 2009 and my own WIP ... or just my own WIP. And I think the exchange format would mitigate the loneliness in any case, because someone wants that ship enough to ask for it.

I think it's worth going for, depending on one's knowledge of their own exchange stress levels. :)

I'm not in general a Caps person AT ALL, but I would love it if the caps exchange produced a fic for Jason Chimera/Joel Ward. I had like one or two glimpses of them in that Road to the Winter Classic and I was all about it.

They were great together in D.C. I doubt they're on too many Caps fans minds at the moment ... but there could be a chance if someone nominates them, and then signs up to request or offer them ...
