My heart is so full for Justin Schultz it's possible I will explode.

I still tear up sometimes thinking of how happy he was to win a Cup last year. And now he's the number one defenseman on another Cup run. I'm so happy for him and I hope he gets his second.

NA

I'm not sure he's actually the number one defenseman? Hainsey (?!) was mostly leading in ice time for the first two series, I think, and lately it's been Maatta.

But still, I am so happy for him. (Although I'd be even happier if I hadn't seen that Twitter rumor that he played the game tonight with broken ribs.)

He's the number one in the sense that he's the best defenseman currently playing on the team and does much, much more to impact the game than Hainsey does on his best days. Even if Sullivan stupidly overplays Hainsey, I still consider Schultz the number one.

Playing him for too many minutes was one of the ways Edmonton wrecked him, so I think the Pens are being careful because they hope to have him for years. At Hainsey's age, it doesn't really matter.

If you want to be emotionally compromised by Justin Schultz, have this tweet:

Dumoulin on Schultz: "He's having fun... Last year, he didn't want to make mistakes. This year, he's just going out there and playing."
