#29 – Lay, Lie, or Laine?

THE RULES

I mean, I do think "by the book" is not always a good justification for a call when it's basically understood that playoff infractions aren't called by the book. Consistency is needed, and a lot of "by the book" calls are inconsistent with a previously established standard, or a blatant make up call to make up for a previous mistake. But it's silly to complain about a by-the-book call when it's the result of a coach's challenge, that's the whole point of the challenge system and the refs don't really have a choice there. Complain about the rules instead.
