Agreed. I'm horrified by the system in general, and ESPECIALLY horrified that those teenagers can also get traded at the drop of a hat.

Wtf are the parents of those kids who've been traded a couple of times thinking, honestly. Their kids clearly aren't going to make it in the NHL, so maybe make sure they at least get a decent high school education in a stable environment?

I'm surprised if the kid is under 18 the parents don't have to consent to a trade, which I know in the USHL they do. Pretty sure there was a story about some kid getting traded and dropped off on the side of the road.

I just did some googling, because I was basing my comment on that major junior player's blog (I can't remember what it was called), and I'm pretty sure he was over 18 when he was traded. So I found out they actually can't trade guys when they're still in high school:

So, I mean, that's something. It's still crazy that it's happening to 18, 19, 20-year-olds, but it's something.

I'm pretty sure if I had a kid who was really good at hockey, the only way I'd let them go into the major junior system is if I had a job that I could do from home anywhere. And then I would be the uncool parent moving to the city of their new team with him. And if he gets traded, I go with him. At the very least, I'd be giving the kid a stable parental figure and have the ability and authority to put my foot down on things.

Even then though, I don't know.
