Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

I'm starting to see people trying to quietly drum up support to start posting K/T again, and it feels so shady. Like, obviously you know it's a gross thing to do if you need other people to do it with you, and also I get this sense of "well if enough people think it's OK I do too" which, way to have a crappy moral compass.

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

I hope I'm proven wrong, but I assume the majority of K/T writers and fans will be back at it in a few months. Ugh.

I know meme jokes about Sid/Geno being over now because of MacKinnon but if that actually happens and K/T aren't dead either, I will be more pressed than an a person being accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials so help me lord.

I don't really believe Sid/Geno is over. It's just one person jumping ship, that's not enough to kill it.

I don't, either. The S/G exchange was well subscribed only a few months ago.

NA

It needs some new canon. Frankly K/T did too -- there wasn't really a huge uptick in fic after the Cup win like you would've expected, and I think the current wave of pairing BNFs was starting to fade (I can't really think of a big, notable K/T fic by a good author that I loved in the last six months before I stopped reading it). So I think some of the frustration is coming from people who already knew their OTP was lying fallow and are mad about this being possibly the final nail (for now).

Pens need another Cup, or some cute interview with Sid and Geno, or something. I feel like all the existing canon has been rehashed and it's hard to pretend they're best buds when it's clear they aren't and have closer friends on the team (same with K/T tbh). That or more AUs.

I don't see what being best buds has to do with it. If it was about best buds we'd be overflowing with Geno/Gonch and Sid/Flower, right from the start.

As someone who's written both, I just feel like "superstars with the team on their back" fades as a narrative when it's been years and it's also clear they don't really hang out one on one. Not that it affects writing them as fictional characters so much as just making it harder to get shippy/tinhat about their interactions (and hook new fans).

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

I don't get this. There's very little evidence Sid hangs out with anyone one on one, but it's got to happen. Hell, we don't even have pictures of him holding Estelle Fleury, and the only picture of him with Alexander Letang was leaked from the photo booth thing at Tanger's wedding.

I'm not saying Sid and Geno are best friends or anything, but there's little evidence of him hanging out with his probable best friends. Or his maybe girlfriend.

I got into this fandom via the fic, and I know a lot of other people who did the same. I think that's a much more important source of new hockey fans than gifsets. Whereas if you're already here, then you probably already know how you feel about Sid/Geno one way or the other, and additional interaction is unlikely to change your feelings.

Besides all that, the Sid/Geno stuff that came out of Worlds made this shipper's heart go pit-a-pat. It's not like we're devoid of material, here.

And they did media day together and were very cute.

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

Well, Geno has been super defensive of Sid's performance so far and I've seen S/G people going nuts over that. But I guess it's hard to translate that into fic. The Pens in general have been a lackluster subject this year.

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

There was more Sid/Geno posted in the last 7 days than even exists of Sid/Nate.

Sadly, I think that K/T will be reanimated and shuffle on like an unpleasant zombie.

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

Eh, not necessarily. People could just want a community to do fun stuff in with other people. I'm not saying I agree with it, but that is the point of fandom and likely where they're coming from.

Re: Patrick Kane will NOT be prosecuted

From: (Anonymous)
It can be both. I've been in fandom long enough to remember the slow circling back to stanning Fassbender after the domestic abuse allegations came out, as well as any number of apologist incidents when other RPF characters did shitty things (the 1D n-word video comes to mind). People know it's wrong, but they also want to keep the status quo, and feel it's unfair that their fave's actions have prevented that. A period of quiet is pretty typical. That period being followed by a slow resumption of normal fannish activities is also typical.
