I read this and went to a shippy place so fast that I think I broke the sound barrier.

Same. From 1 to 100 in shipping Nicky with Russians in less than a second, oh my god.

Can Nicklas Backstrom score 15 Russians in 15 seconds? Of course he can.

Ha! Perfect.

I feel like I should drop a link to this sinbin prompt somewhere in this thread

http://thesinbin.dreamwidth.org/3088.html?thread=3217424#cmt3217424

Maybe his "I like Russians" comment will inspire someone to make the Russians like him back.

Seriously! And the video doesn't hurt.

A characterization note: Nicky's Russians comment is about as uproariously, hilariously joking as he ever gets on public video. A deadpan statement and then a sly smile.

If you watch to the end of the (2:15) video (through some typical hockey-player media-speak about the game), the last question asks "Were you intending to make that pass to Ovechkin or were you just blindly throwing it on net?"

Nicky's answer is full-on "are you fucking kidding me right now?" He has zero time for this reporter and his nonsense. (tbh, the pass was ridiculous, but that's what Nicky does. The reporter should have known better--but I'll take the reserved Swedish Smackdown.)

I honestly feel like most of the stories that I've read that feature Backstrom get these two elements pretty well, but if anyone wants a reference, here ya go!

The more I learn about him the more I like him.

For some reason that website doesn't work for me, I get sound but just a black screen instead of picture. Any other copies of the video anywhere?

Monument doesn't like ad blockers. It should work if you turn them off.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't feel that comment was all that deadpan or particularly subtle in some way. It was just a normal joke and then he laughed, as one does.

IA. And he makes those kind of jokes fairly often. The "What do you think?" sass is something I don't see as much.

(That same question to Kuzy would've gotten something like "lucky play" and a giggle.)
