#23 — Brown Goes Down

This is the twenty-third post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I found a snippet of fic on my laptop from 2011 and it's Pascal Dupuis/Sidney Crosby and it's like really??? 2011 was probably the last time I paid attention to the Penguins but how did I forget about this? Please tell me this happens to other people.

It annoys me when I get a bunch of kudos on a fic that was obviously recced somewhere but no one comments. Also that the locked down nature of hockey fandom makes it hard to follow up that kind of rec. like, I get why and I lock down everything too, so file this under fandom hypocrisies probably.

You might try searching your username on Pinboard. A bunch of people bookmarked a fic of mine there a few weeks ago (by a bunch I mean like five, but it's an old fic, so that feels like a lot), and I've had new kudos (and even some comments) trickling in since then. I sort of figured the first bookmarker was one of those people everyone else follows on Pinboard for recs.

This happened to me in another RPF fandom recently and it was so weird. It was for fics I wrote five or six years ago and all of a sudden they were getting more kudos. It was nice, but weird.

I really don't care if hockey players are horrible people. I deal with enough racist homophobe misogynists in my everyday life that I just want one place where I can escape it, even if that means being wilfully blind about it.

Every time a new article comes out about Russian doping scandals, I get a sinking feeling that it's only a matter of time before the Russian NHLers get dragged into it (because of their time on the national team)... :/

Rn I'm rooting for the Penguins and actually made a silly, happy noise when they won the last game. This feels weird and wrong and yet I can't help but cheer for them tonight.

The Sharks are finally close and I don't want either EC opponent. Either people will say "it's just Tampa, not a traditional market team" if they beat the Bolts, or I will have to just burn down my Twitter timeline if it's the Pens (no matter who wins). Wish it could've been a traditionally but easily hateable team, like Boston or the Rangers.
