I like the way you think, nonnie. Maybe it's consensual to begin with, but then once it starts, the dude on the receiving end is too blissed out to back out even if he wanted to. Which he doesn't. Wow, he really doesn't.

This #fakestanleycupfacts on twitter is kind of hilarious

I honestly don't understand how they haven't been incorporated into your basic a/b/o tropes.

I mean. A knot and a mating plug is a bit redundant.

Not if you want your dude stretched out for the rest of the day, instead of the mere 12 hours it takes for knotting.

I figured it was less about stretch and more about keeping all that jizz where it belongs.

I've never read something where a knot lasts that long, but either way, time isn't really the concern when the knot is a central part of the porn appeal. Like, mating plugs have their own appeal, but it's a reach to call it a "basic" extension to classic a/b/o.

I was joking about the 12 hours, and I didn't call it a basic extension to classic a/b/o. I think it would fit with the repertoire. You don't. That's fine.

There's going to be a Caps exchange! Nominations are this week.

I'm confused by Connor Carrick not being eligible. Not that I want to write him, but he seems to be used in the rules as an example of a former prospect, when he actually played like 40 games for the Caps. Is there a number of games threshold/players that didn't "stick" rule, or something? Although I guess it doesn't matter because I can't really think of any other players off the top of my head who'd fall into that grey area.

Six days later, I am CPing the hell out of this into my inspiration folder, because you've hit on some stuff that I am both super tired of (The Bros Who Don't Realize What's Going On) and that I want more of: guys without feelings, who actually do have them.

SO MANY of the guys I know just have this...gaping absence in their lives when it comes to talking about feelings. Particularly about their wives/significant others. They just don't do it. And women tend to share that stuff a lot more, so it shows up in fic: all these dudes talking about their feelings.

And don't get me wrong. I LOVE a good adult conversation that gets at the heart of the conflict between characters, but I'm ready to slam that Repress/Deny/Ignore button, too. Because having legitimately emotionally constipated guys HAVE to work through something that they otherwise just wouldn't would be really satisfying to read/write.

I think part of it is that guys in hockey fic tend to pretty self-aware about their feelings, even if they don't dare talk about them, and I don't think that's always necessary or realistic characterization. Sometimes it doesn't even need to involve repress/ignore/deny on a conscious level because it's so instinctive.

Anyway, I am delighted to hear this, and I hope you find it a very inspirational line of thought! :)

AYRT - I guess that if the non-tentacled party gets something out of it then it's going to be easier to get them to do it again. And if word spreads that it's a good time it's got to be easier to talk people into letting you impregnate them.

He should be eligible, and the example on AO3 is Copley. Pretty sure it's just a mistake.

Yeah, like a word of mouth thing. Maybe it gets played off as a joke, but somebody's always keeping an eye for guys that actually look interested.

Wow, The Pens Blog is salty about a whole bunch of things, most of which IDGAF about, but also they claim Pensburgh is ripping off their analysis, which I can only assume means they don't read what Pensburgh writes.

TPB is such a shithole. Jesse Marshall and Meesh, you're such interesting writers and seem like decent people. (Meesh does, at least; Jesse might be casually gross and I just haven't noticed.) Why are you there? :(

Dear self, learn that liking a fic doesn't mean you have to like the person who wrote it and while you're at it learn that disliking that person doesn't have to take away your enjoyment of their stories.

Love, anon.

Nonny, I haven't been on deke in probably almost a month? (Since whenever my teams were eliminated and I was heartbroken I started watching basketball and women's soccer instead.) But I am SO glad that you followed through with this and it is a thing! Glad I get to vote in the final rounds! Major kudos to you for taking the time to do this!

Wow, I really am going to have to suffer through a choice of Carey Price or Hilary Knight in the next round. IDK if I can do it, meme.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you nonny.

I find that avoiding the author on all social platforms helps. Not always because some wankers (hello zarabithia) are so noxious that it's hard to separate.

You're probably not fantasizing about Hilary knocking Carey up, but that is definitely what I'm thinking about now. (And hey, he sure has been out a long time!)

Re: Fandom Venting

Yeah, I definitely avoid most authors on tumblr/twitter. Usually it's enough to glance at their tumblr and know when to back away again, lol. I think there's only 1 I follow and she barely posts anything.

This is something that really annoys me about the author of YCMAL (idk what she calls herself now fandom-wise) btw because if you don't follow her tumblr you miss like 50% of her content and don't understand what's going on and it just turned me off her stories in general. :/

Yeah, I mean, I think I've read all of imp's fic, but found her insufferable as a person (less so now, but I also don't have any real interaction with her now). I also find that what annoys me about people is often what annoys me in their fic - if they're overly long-winded and ponderous, so is their fic. If they're a bit engrossed with their own talent, their fic shows that, etc.

Well, dammit, now I am too. They need to do that. Think of the eyebrows on their progeny. (And you know, the hockey talent.)
