I got my swag from the NWHL Kickstarter in the mail today, so now I've received all the physical items I was due (the stickers are really cute) and the music download links were e-mailed to me way back within a week or so of me donating. Just waiting now on the digital download of the finished documentary.

I was joking about how some people would have preferred it without closure now that we have it, haha. Although full disclosure I've never really had an issue with this fandom's endings and have actively thought people were Wrong about calling something a non-ending on here before.

idk why but I first read this as "Jake Virtanen is going to be a dad" and my heart honestly dropped for a second at the idea of that bb having a bb. Time for bed, grandma nonnie.

That reminds me of that "girl!Jamie/Tyler" fill, last names unspecified. (The OP was fine about it being Jamie McGinn and Tyler Ennis even though they probably *meant* Benn and Seguin, the fill itself worked fine for *me*, but yeah, full names on kinkmeme prompts are a good idea.)

I would probably assume "Bergy" was Bergeron (at least at first glance) even if the context clues clearly pointed to Berglund. (Neither a Blues nor a Bruins nonnie, fwiw.)

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Ah, I think of that fill often. While it'd be a bit much on the asshole scale if it happened every time someone got a little too comfortable prompting their fave on the kinkmeme, it was basically the perfect prank. I wish to one day reach that level of harmless passive aggression played straight.

I hadn't thought of the kink meme as a context where things could possibly get ambiguous until another anon mentioned it, and I thought that was a good point, because I had been thinking about things like twitter convos where the context would be super obvious. But the only prompt on the current post mentioning "Muzz" (in the subject line) also called him by his full name in the prompt, mentioned teammates Sid and Phil, and asked for a celebration of his playoff performance. You can make a point about wanting clearer subject lines for the sake of organization, but saying Pens fans need to stop calling him Muzz!! That name is taken! It's confusing! is silly. I guess Flyers fans need to stop calling Giroux G, or at least call him G on the Flyers. And the Caps should just rename Nicklas Backstrom.

I still wish somebody had written Sidney Crosby/Claude Lemieux in response to the Crosby/Giroux prompt wank.

I do wish certain people would be clearer in their subject lines. Sometimes it's just a pairing with no mention of the very specific kink scenario outlined in the prompt, and sometimes it's basically a sentence of how the prompter got inspired with no mention of kink OR pairing!

I track, though, so these are the kinds of things that make me decide whether to open a given comment notif email or not. I guess if you're just reading on the kinkmeme it doesn't matter.

Same, tbh! I like full names, pairings, and kink in my subject lines. But to me that's a different complaint than the one that was voiced which just came off as kinda entitled and world-revolves-around-me (esp because there was no mention of the kink meme/subject lines, it was just, stop calling him that!!).

I'm really enjoying this reddit anecdote of beer leaguers playing against Craig Anderson.

Oops, I don't know why I marked that as da, I'm ayrt. Sorry!!

ayrt

Yeah, agreed. IDK if the kinkmeme was even what they were talking about! They never said.

this reminded me that giroux also is sometimes (unfortunately) called "g baby." so if There Can Only be One, i guess we at least have a backup plan.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Ahahaha omg. Watch someone get mad though because they got ~confused that you were talking about Malkin's baby and shipping him with Crosby or Simmonds or whoever.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
This flat memer thought for a second that you were replying to the comment with Nicky Backstrom with Baby Nicky. There are only ten names and five nicknames in all of hockey.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I like Roo. It's also a joke as roux means redheaded, which places it pretty high in the quality nickname ranks.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I guess that's good if you're a journeyman player. You don't have to learn new names, just reassign them to new faces. :p If nothing else, just call out "Brandon!" and one of your teammates is bound to respond.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I immediately thought of a team to which this doesn't apply, which then makes me want to find out which first name appears on the most team rosters.

Re: Game Day Thread, June 6, 2016

This article by James Mirtle (written after Game 3) I think has a pretty good analysis of what's going on: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/san-jose-sharks-must-shorten-bench-to-have-any-chance-at-stanley-cup/article30281982/. Mentions things other anons have, plus depth and coaching/line-matching, which also made me think of an article (on a blog, Pensburgh I think?) that talked about Sullivan countering DeBoer having the last change at home and trying to match the Sharks' first line against Schultz by always yanking Schultz immediately (he had some shifts that were like 4 seconds or 8 seconds) and replacing him with Letang, which works because Letang can handle that many minutes (although he has made some bad mistakes, so maybe there's a downside).

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I think someone's done that before. I think Matt and Ryan were the most frequent offenders?

... @Strome parents.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Someone actually sort of did this and wrote an article about it, like most and least common NHL names or something. All I remember from it is that there is only one Sidney, no active Marios and Waynes (I think they were really interested in players sharing names with "greats"?) and a shitton of Mikes.

That was delightful. Thanks for sharing! I'm all grins now.

So the moral of the story is that if you want your kind to be a "great" hockey player, don't pick a male name that makes the list of most popular baby names in Canada that year?

(I just googled out of curiosity, and there will be a lot of Liams, Logans, and Lucases being drafted in 18 years, if anyone was wondering.)
