Is Brent Burns always so cross-checky and I just haven't noticed?? Or was tonight a special occasion.

No he's been playing like a frustrated trash baby all series, pretty annoying. I liked when he got in Malkin's face after Malkin humiliated him on a rush. Such a tough guy.

CBC was talking about that, "And here is punching Sidney Crosby in the back. That's what you have to do when you play against Pittsburgh!"

...thanks a lot, CBC. I get it's supposed to be a compliment towards my team, but I could do with less flattery if this is what it looks like.

NBC was doing it too. Burns punched Crosby in the back of the head and Eddie went apeshit. "That's GOOD, HARD hockey from Burns! That's what he needs to do!"

I'm glad Pittsburgh lost, because it'll hopefully shut up everyone yelling to trade Fleury/dump him in the expansion draft. (Not that this one game is reflective of Murray. Just that it would have been stupid to boot an experienced, proven goaltender for one who's never played a full NHL season, when you can keep them both fairly cheaply for at least another year and see how Murray progresses.)

I enjoy NBC's broadcasts so much more now that I've heard Dave Lozo's Doc impression.

Given the limitations that DTMAboutHeart describes, plus small sample size for Murray and his age, I think that graph will look more than a little different this time next year. But I think it's probably accurate right now, hopefully Rutherford shares this view and doesn't gamble on Murray the way he did with Ward.

In simplified terms, it's basically taking each goalie's stats and determining how likely it is that those stats are truly representative of how good the goalie is based on the sample size (amount of shots faced), keeping in mind the phenomenon of regression toward the mean (the tendency of a variable to be closer to average on second measurement if the first measurement was extreme, and to have been closer to average on first measurement if the second is extreme) and the fact that better goalies get more starts and therefore face more shots.

The graph will definitely change as long as Murray continues to play, especially since both regression and confidence are based on the small sample size! But yeah, Rutherford seems like a guy who has learned from past mistakes, and even without the stats to back it up, making a gamble like that on a young goalie with so little experience seems unwise.

I really want a fic where two players end up as the biological fathers of the same set of twins. Like, it was that super rare case where a set of fraternal twins has two different fathers. After, of course, they both had sex with the same woman on the same night.

But you basically either have to use a wife or invent a possibly disposable OFC, and I'm just not comfortable with that.

Are you opposed to mpreg? Or always-a-girl fic? Or you could pick someone's wife who is famous in RL, if it's the non-famous/not being in the public eye part that bugs you?

+1 I hadn't thought of mpreg, but always-a-girl came immediately to mind.

The NHL's secret breeding program was discovered and now everyone is getting custody of the babies they never knew they had.

I want fic about the NHL's secret breeding program so badly.

Babies for everyone, but especially the single guys! Who's going it alone? Who pawns off their children on their parents/more responsible siblings? Who pools all their time together and basically has a giant co-parenting ring for their 20+ children? (...Ok, that last one's probably the Caps.)

I know he'd been in not great health for a few years, but this still makes me so sad. :(

I think HNIC is better than NBC, but only because NBC is so actively infuriating, not because I find HNIC is actually enjoyable to watch. So it was really interesting to read about the process by which HNIC arrived in its current form. Apparently there's hope of change soon!
