Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)It has 500+ notes. Why has no one fact checked this.

From: (Anonymous)Yeah, there was something wonky going on with the coloring.
No, I don't fact check everything, but as a Kings fan I do see the Sharks a lot. Without the coloring it doesn't really LOOK like pride tape, either. It's the easiest thing in the world to go "hey, this sounds kind of dubious let me do a cursory search", especially if you're making a gifset/editing something and looking at the source video for a long time.
I don't like the idea that a bunch of people are going to get false hope/ become falsely inspired by something, because then real life can actively let them down and that feeling sucks so much.
For reference, pride tape: http://www.dallasvoice.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IMG5561.jpg
And Jones' glove: http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/content/kgo/images/cms/1116967_1280x720.jpg
That was the 4th google images result for 'martin jones glove', btw.

From: (Anonymous)Jesus Fucking Christ, what got put in this place's water last night? Everybody, stop being little dickweeds.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Yep, this is what I mean. Certain players are famous for being health nuts (Toews dragging Brad Richards to a smoothie place in Tampa) or junk food addicts (Gaudreau, Neal who can't cook?) but what I really hate is when any of the zillion guys between those extremes are finishing up dinner and doing the want-to-but-I-shouldn't dance about dessert, or similar scenes. It's shitty cultural programming anyway, but specifically feminine in the west, and I feel like I'm watching a yogurt ad or reading a mainstream romance novel, because female guilt over wanting to eat "decadent" food is often subtly tied to guilt over wanting sex but being a good girl. So it doesn't just bug me because it's factually inaccurate, but because it brings in all that baggage.
Re: Bangs, fests, exchanges etc - Pens Rarepair Fest - Deadline Extension
From: (Anonymous)UPDATE: DEADLINE EXTENSION.
Fills deadline has been extended to JUNE 30TH to allow people to come down from the high of WINNING THE STANLEY FUCKING CUP and also the inevitable Sid/Geno meltdown when that exchange goes live later this week.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Yeah, I'm not a fan of when fic spends a lot of time on what they ate or when they ate it even when there isn't guilty feelings attached, but I especially don't like when having a piece of cake is presented as some huge internal struggle, or they talk about how hard it is to stay on the meal plan or whatever. I don't consider myself somebody with major issues around food but I've realized I don't enjoy it being a big deal in my fandom spaces, and that's probably because of the media pressure stuff you're talking about. It sucks when you feel like you can't escape it.
Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)There's your problem. Most people aren't Kings (or Sharks) fans and don't see the Sharks a lot. Most people haven't looked closely at Jones' gloves except in the colored gif set. It's absolutely unsurprising people would think it's true.

From: (Anonymous)Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)Fair enough, but not fact-checking is so pervasive within the tumblr community that at this point it just annoys the hell out of me. Also, I know the OP deleted it, but I can not for the life of me figure out why they would just take a statement at face value when they had to look at the source video for a prolonged period of time. I mean, it struck me as weird only because pride tape looks nothing like Jones' glove does - it's much brighter and much more colorful.
But whatever, I guess. Tumblr gonna tumblr.

Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Most guys I know who are really health conscious will give themselves a day where they're like, fuck it, I want ice cream, so they get ice cream. As much ice cream as they want. And they eat it that day. But anything that's left over the next day gets given to their significant other or thrown out, so they don't have two days where they eat a ton of junk. None of that splitting dessert bullshit, unless the dessert in question is an entire cake.
