AYRT

Fair enough, but not fact-checking is so pervasive within the tumblr community that at this point it just annoys the hell out of me. Also, I know the OP deleted it, but I can not for the life of me figure out why they would just take a statement at face value when they had to look at the source video for a prolonged period of time. I mean, it struck me as weird only because pride tape looks nothing like Jones' glove does - it's much brighter and much more colorful.

But whatever, I guess. Tumblr gonna tumblr.

/goes back to agonizing over the Lucic contract drama

Re: Fandom Venting

Lucic contract drama? I thought it had been left at Lucic wanting 6x6, the Kings offering $5.5x4 and netiher side budging, so talks had stopped. Is there something new?

Re: Fandom Venting

The thing is that I don't think Lombardi/Sutter have made up their mind about either letting him go or calling up Mersch/Kempe. It doesn't feel like the Kopitar deal did, because Kings management is blunt when they've made up their minds. The fact is that if the Kings let Lucic go, then Jones and Miller are sunk costs. Plus there was the Sekera stuff a while back.

I think if Sekera had worked out/ Jones hadn't gone to the Sharks, it would be easier to just say no to Lucic. As it is, Lombardi has to be careful about how he goes about things. Plus there's all the Dustin Brown stuff going on, and Trevor Lewis (who is a favorite of Sutter's, and a fantastic support piece) needs to be re-signed AND THEY ARE PAYING ROB SCUDERI FOR ANOTHER YEAR, AND THEY HAVE TO FIND A BACKUP BECAUSE ENROTH IS LEAVING BECAUSE THEY NEVER PLAYED HIM AND WHILE QUICK MIGHT BE A WORKHORSE HE SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING 65+ GAMES AGAIN.

Basically, cap hell + other factors make this a decision that could change the roster top to bottom and I have no idea what I want them to do and can't guess what they should do.

I am leaning towards wanting them to let Lucic go, re-sign Lewis, and give some prospects a shot.

They should let both Lucic & Lewis go. I get that Lewis is Sutter's plop & go player that he can rely on to fill in on whatever line has someone out for injury in whatever forward position is open. But Gaborik can play either side of the ice and several of our depth wings are truthfully centers. I think we'll be okay. Frankly, I think his biggest contribution to the team was as the guy who made sure Doughty was constructively occupied and not getting into trouble, but now he's moved out. I know the players like him enough that he's won the players' award for the last five or six years in a row, but I don't think he's irreplaceable.

I wish people would stop thinking that the deal wasn't worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. As far as I'm concerned this deal is only worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. I think he worked out great and he stabilized the team and was a tremondous morale booster and worked excellently to replace Justin Williams-points wise. If we'd had another bad year, we might have started spiraling into Canucks territory or worse (we did have *three* players arrested, after all), so I'm very happy. That good year, of which he was key, was well worth what we paid for. The team is stabilized now. We don't need him any more. Especially when he's going to turn into the next Dustin Brown, and Dean & Darryl don't even seem to like the one they've already got.

Jones was going to be a sunk cost either way. The Sharks were going to offer sheet him. Although, in retrospect it would have been better to just let them. If they'd offer sheeted him for what they're paying him, and we'd let them take him, we would have gotten a first & a third. But from what little has come out, it sounds like the Bruins really wanted Jones, because they knew he'd be a good flippable piece, so I'm not sure if we could have talked them into someone else, tbh. And it sounds like the Bruins demanded Colin Miller too and I don't blame them, as he was a right-shooting offensive d, and clearly our best d.

If there would be one thing I would change, it would be the Sekera deal. Not that it happened, because if he hadn't gotten injured it might have worked out, but I'd change the fact that when the Canes asked for Forbort, the Kings didn't say "hell yeah," instead of offering up McKeown.

Anyway, they should definitely give some prospects a shot. I'm more concerned with them accurating figuring out which prospects those should be, because what management says in interviews (I don't watch Reign/Monarchs games) doesn't seem to jibe well with what happens when they get they up here. Gravel, for example, looked pretty solid in his cup of coffee & he almost didn't get a contract last year.

As for the goalie sitch, everyone seems to think they'll sign Budaj. I'm sad about it. I totally think the $1.2 mil they were paying Enroth is worth it for a decent back-up, but apparently the Kings want someone even cheaper. I'm sure Dean Lombardi will kick the tires on a few free agents just to see what's out there. I don't think that Quick should be playing that many games either, but in past years, Darryl Sutter's hand was forced by injury. I don't think he's had a year of mostly healthy!Quick before, so hopefully he'll be more prepared to work in the back-up this coming year.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Actually, Quick played more games in the 2014-15 season (72), and the 2011-12 season (69), so it isn't that injuries are the problem - Sutter is just one of those "if it works don't fix it" guys. But Quick looked really worn down this postseason, so maybe that'll change his mind.

I don't see Jones as a sunk cost. Whether or not Dean Lombardi does is a different matter. I just wish, in hindsight, that they had just let SJ offer sheet him.

I think Adrian Kempe or Michael Mersch could be slotted into Trevor Lewis' spot for less money, but the problem with Sutter is that he doesn't trust younger players (see: fucking Rob Scuderi).

Agreed that they shouldn't sign Lucic because of Brown, though.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Well, I don't count 2011-12. I didn't remember Quick playing so much last year, but last year there was a reason for it, because we were on the bubble so much of the time. This year, even when our position was quite secure, Sutter seemed reluctant to give Enroth the start. Except against the Sharks, ironically.

I don't think there's a coach in the NHL who trusts younger players. Whenever you see a coach playing younger players, it seems like it's always the former AHL coach, who has already been coaching those guys. I'm not too concerned about it. It's really only an issue if you have an aging guy who doesn't play well versus a young guy who is playing great. The Kings don't have that issue. It'd be Mersch or Kempe versus Nolan or Andreoff, and I'm sure Sutter would make the right choice. Although, I will admit, I did not call him given Versteeg so few minutes.

I've made my peace with Scuderi. I suspect that was more of an off-ice trade than an on-ice one.

Agreed that they shouldn't sign Lucic because of Brown, though.
Not to mention this is the last year of Toffoli's contract.

I suspect that was more of an off-ice trade than an on-ice one.

I heard on Twitter not that long ago that the Kings traded for Scuderi bc Doughty asked them to after Scuderi got sent down to the AHL. Which if true lololol

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I think whoever said that probably misspelled Sutter.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I don't know if you meant this as a joke, but in case not, they definitely didn't. People asked, they said they had an inside source who's friends with Doughty or something like that.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I think that tweet has been deleted. What I was really getting at is that there were a variety of factors, although that Drew Doughty looks up to Scuderi a bit probably didn't hurt.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I'm sure you could well be right especially since none of it is verifiable, that's just not at all what the tweet was saying (which whether or not it's true, it's amusing to think about, especially because of how much people dislike Doughty).

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I'd say it's probably only amusing because people dislike Doughty. If it were Sidney Crosby who was reported to have done that, I don't think there'd be much lololol in these parts.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Yes... that's exactly the point? That people don't like the Kings and don't like Doughty?

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Uh ... yes? That's the point. Is there a question?

Re: Fandom Venting

Hello. Oilers nonnie here. If someone else (anyone really) could sign Lucic so Edmonton doesn't that'd be swell.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Do you think the Oilers are truly tempted? It seems like it's all just been spec based on Chiarelli now being the GM there.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Bob Mckenzie said Edmonton and Vancouver are the 2 primary suitors if he doesn't sign in LA. It's basically the combined Chiarelli effect (hard-nosed, big body, the way we want to play the game, yadda yadda) plus the "Connor McDavid effect" which is this wacky idea that soon the Oilers will be good again so Lucic might want to sign here??

I keep seeing 6x$6 and then break out in a nervous sweat.
