Well apparently, according to Bob McKenzie: "'There may have been some lobbying behind the scenes' from core players like Getzlaf, Perry to have Carlyle come back."

I didn't even know Hagelin/Kessel was a thing until the prompts were revealed. I posted the lone Bonino/Kessel prompt. I always seem to be slightly out of step with fandom.

I was confused too. I don't know what the original reason was to have it. Maybe allowing people who maximized their requests to request additional fics?

But it appears that it would (unintentionally?) allow people who don't want to participate in the exchange to sign-up and express their preferences to maybe get treats.

... I guess I'll wait a while before prompting my Beau-will-do-anything-to-get-his-name-on-the-cup idea I had yesterday.

But Crosby has literally said he has to be careful with eating because of his sweet tooth, particularly in the summer. There's no canon with the assumption that he only eats salad, but there is definitely canon that says he's a bit at war with himself over food.

Being careful about what you eat isn't the same as being at war with oneself over food, though. I think that's where some of the discomfort is coming from. There's a big difference between controlling what you eat to maximize your athletic performance, and the associations of guilt and morality from eating "bad" food. Not to say that the two never overlap, of course they do, but having experienced both first-hand at different times, they are not the same. Crosby imo sounds like a guy who's pretty at peace with his sweet tooth even while acknowledging it's not something he wants to do all the time.

If nobody uses the word that way, and there is a word spelled one letter differently that is very commonly used in sentences like that, the simplest explanation is that the author mistyped. Not that they intentionally used an uncommon phrasing.

It may be technically possible the author was indicating something was wedged against a throat, for example, but I'm probably not going to give them the benefit of the doubt if I come up against someone "chocking" in a fic.

Re: Bangs, fests, exchanges etc

(Anonymous) 2016-06-14 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm guessing the mod would delete anyone who signed up for treats who wasn't in the main exchange.

What I wasn't clear on, and the most recent post seems to maybe clarify, is I guess this is their way of our collecting/publicizing dear author letters? They must not be planning on making the signups public.

I've been in one exchange in the past where the mod was all "no, only one fic. No matter what" like, you can only "claim" on of your recipe's prompts and the rest were to be returned to them unwritten, basically. Fandom intellectual property norms or whatnot can go in interesting directions when people try to design things from the ground up instead of copying yuletide/kink-bingo/big bangs/etc.

wait, I looked back at their first ask, and I guess you can "sign up for treats" without being in the exchange. I think I hadn't clicked through to the form before, so I didn't understand it was for collecting letters, rather than, say, signing up for an email lost to which prompts would be distributed.

NA would be here for that, except I think Rutherford might have the call on that, which nope. I'd be for it if it were him negotiating with other fringe people to take themselves out of contention.

Yeah, it's the guilting and angsting I'm really objecting to. I ran this whole debate by my husband last night, and he was like "yeah, you notice I didn't have ice cream last night and I am tonight because I don't want to have it all the time, but it's just a quick yes or no decision." Guys just don't have that "ohhhh fine I'll be BAD!" BS as a cultural model for them, probably bc they don't grow up watching their moms and other female role models do that.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-14 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think this particular article would help with that. It's basically one long lecture about how if they ate better and drank less, they'd be better.

Sadly, I don't think Gaudreau is all that alone in that matter. As someone who used to work in a grocery store, people know about a dozen (being very generous here) produce items that they purchase regularly, but give them a new recipe to try or something like that and they are completely flummoxed.

Haha, my idea is basically that he lets the team do whatever they want to him in exchange for getting his name on the cup. Maybe we should both prompt it.

Lucic contract drama? I thought it had been left at Lucic wanting 6x6, the Kings offering $5.5x4 and netiher side budging, so talks had stopped. Is there something new?

Re: Hockey Media

(Anonymous) 2016-06-14 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
In general that sounds plausible, I do see new things I don't know in the grocery store every once in a while, but - plums?! Are plums rare in North America?

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-06-14 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is that I don't think Lombardi/Sutter have made up their mind about either letting him go or calling up Mersch/Kempe. It doesn't feel like the Kopitar deal did, because Kings management is blunt when they've made up their minds. The fact is that if the Kings let Lucic go, then Jones and Miller are sunk costs. Plus there was the Sekera stuff a while back.

I think if Sekera had worked out/ Jones hadn't gone to the Sharks, it would be easier to just say no to Lucic. As it is, Lombardi has to be careful about how he goes about things. Plus there's all the Dustin Brown stuff going on, and Trevor Lewis (who is a favorite of Sutter's, and a fantastic support piece) needs to be re-signed AND THEY ARE PAYING ROB SCUDERI FOR ANOTHER YEAR, AND THEY HAVE TO FIND A BACKUP BECAUSE ENROTH IS LEAVING BECAUSE THEY NEVER PLAYED HIM AND WHILE QUICK MIGHT BE A WORKHORSE HE SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING 65+ GAMES AGAIN.

Basically, cap hell + other factors make this a decision that could change the roster top to bottom and I have no idea what I want them to do and can't guess what they should do.

I am leaning towards wanting them to let Lucic go, re-sign Lewis, and give some prospects a shot.

According to the article up on DK's site, Malkin also gave Crosby a ride home. Even rich superstar athletes carpool I guess lol.

Re: Fandom Venting

They should let both Lucic & Lewis go. I get that Lewis is Sutter's plop & go player that he can rely on to fill in on whatever line has someone out for injury in whatever forward position is open. But Gaborik can play either side of the ice and several of our depth wings are truthfully centers. I think we'll be okay. Frankly, I think his biggest contribution to the team was as the guy who made sure Doughty was constructively occupied and not getting into trouble, but now he's moved out. I know the players like him enough that he's won the players' award for the last five or six years in a row, but I don't think he's irreplaceable.

I wish people would stop thinking that the deal wasn't worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. As far as I'm concerned this deal is only worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. I think he worked out great and he stabilized the team and was a tremondous morale booster and worked excellently to replace Justin Williams-points wise. If we'd had another bad year, we might have started spiraling into Canucks territory or worse (we did have *three* players arrested, after all), so I'm very happy. That good year, of which he was key, was well worth what we paid for. The team is stabilized now. We don't need him any more. Especially when he's going to turn into the next Dustin Brown, and Dean & Darryl don't even seem to like the one they've already got.

Jones was going to be a sunk cost either way. The Sharks were going to offer sheet him. Although, in retrospect it would have been better to just let them. If they'd offer sheeted him for what they're paying him, and we'd let them take him, we would have gotten a first & a third. But from what little has come out, it sounds like the Bruins really wanted Jones, because they knew he'd be a good flippable piece, so I'm not sure if we could have talked them into someone else, tbh. And it sounds like the Bruins demanded Colin Miller too and I don't blame them, as he was a right-shooting offensive d, and clearly our best d.

If there would be one thing I would change, it would be the Sekera deal. Not that it happened, because if he hadn't gotten injured it might have worked out, but I'd change the fact that when the Canes asked for Forbort, the Kings didn't say "hell yeah," instead of offering up McKeown.

Anyway, they should definitely give some prospects a shot. I'm more concerned with them accurating figuring out which prospects those should be, because what management says in interviews (I don't watch Reign/Monarchs games) doesn't seem to jibe well with what happens when they get they up here. Gravel, for example, looked pretty solid in his cup of coffee & he almost didn't get a contract last year.

As for the goalie sitch, everyone seems to think they'll sign Budaj. I'm sad about it. I totally think the $1.2 mil they were paying Enroth is worth it for a decent back-up, but apparently the Kings want someone even cheaper. I'm sure Dean Lombardi will kick the tires on a few free agents just to see what's out there. I don't think that Quick should be playing that many games either, but in past years, Darryl Sutter's hand was forced by injury. I don't think he's had a year of mostly healthy!Quick before, so hopefully he'll be more prepared to work in the back-up this coming year.

I don't think they're that rare but I don't know if I'd recognize them if my parents hadn't bought them for me growing up (mangoes probably go in that group too). I think specifically prunes are probably more notorious.

Oh, trust me. There's a whole lot of people out there who couldn't correctly pick out an orange and would bring you half a dozen similar items from grapefruits to limes instead. Plums and eggplants are both purple and that's probably as much as he knows about either of them.

Hello. Oilers nonnie here. If someone else (anyone really) could sign Lucic so Edmonton doesn't that'd be swell.

Re: Fandom Venting

Do you think the Oilers are truly tempted? It seems like it's all just been spec based on Chiarelli now being the GM there.

Since it's contract focused, it doesn't list the NHL Awards. June 22, for anyone who cares.

Actually, Quick played more games in the 2014-15 season (72), and the 2011-12 season (69), so it isn't that injuries are the problem - Sutter is just one of those "if it works don't fix it" guys. But Quick looked really worn down this postseason, so maybe that'll change his mind.

I don't see Jones as a sunk cost. Whether or not Dean Lombardi does is a different matter. I just wish, in hindsight, that they had just let SJ offer sheet him.

I think Adrian Kempe or Michael Mersch could be slotted into Trevor Lewis' spot for less money, but the problem with Sutter is that he doesn't trust younger players (see: fucking Rob Scuderi).

Agreed that they shouldn't sign Lucic because of Brown, though.
