Being careful about what you eat isn't the same as being at war with oneself over food, though. I think that's where some of the discomfort is coming from. There's a big difference between controlling what you eat to maximize your athletic performance, and the associations of guilt and morality from eating "bad" food. Not to say that the two never overlap, of course they do, but having experienced both first-hand at different times, they are not the same. Crosby imo sounds like a guy who's pretty at peace with his sweet tooth even while acknowledging it's not something he wants to do all the time.

Yeah, it's the guilting and angsting I'm really objecting to. I ran this whole debate by my husband last night, and he was like "yeah, you notice I didn't have ice cream last night and I am tonight because I don't want to have it all the time, but it's just a quick yes or no decision." Guys just don't have that "ohhhh fine I'll be BAD!" BS as a cultural model for them, probably bc they don't grow up watching their moms and other female role models do that.
