Do... people actually think Pens fans are being serious when they talk about the existence of a Pens injury curse? I mean, Despres and Sutter got traded and then got badly injured, and Pens fans talked about there being a reverse Pens injury curse. It's obviously a joke. (Right??)

Somebody on meme in the recent past literally pulled out stats to prove that the pens are THE MOST INJURED TEAM OF ALL so no, I'm pretty sure it isn't a joke. At least for some people.

I think it's a little of column A and a little of column B. I mean. The existence of Beau Bennett alone is grounds for an injury curse. But we Ike bout it too.

Good lord. Joke. We joke about it too. Not whatever words I actually typed there

Quantifiable evidence of a certain degree/amount of injury =/= believing that a team is injured all the time because they have an injury curse??? Pens fans complain about how injured they are/how that impacts their team all the time, sure, but they're talking about concussions and life-threatening ailments, not missing teeth. None of that translates into being serious about being cursed, lol.

"Persecution complex"? Someone made a dumb joke about a missing tooth and is being told they aren't ~new and ~special. But ok.

Okay but the Penguins kicked that ~curse's~ butt https://twitter.com/ManGamesLostNHL/status/742333383334891520

Take that, curse!

The INJURY is not new or special, nothing was said about the person who made the joke???

ITT using stats = belief in the supernatural. Which actually explains a lot about how people talk about stats.

I don't know about other Pens fans but uh. I've had enough of new and special injuries to last me a while. Thanks.

What would even qualify as a new and special injury? Crosby is out with a lower body injury due to be stabbed by a unicorn?

jfc, I would feel kinda bad writing daddy kink about him because he's basically an actual child. Not because of his age or anything, but because his mom does his laundry for him and he still cuts his sandwiches into little triangles. good lord.

anon who made the stupid joke and now heartily regrets it

That was sort of the point of the joke? It's the quintessential hockey player injury that coincidentally happened after he joined the Pens, so it's a little silly (in the sense of funny but also in the sense of absolutely without credibility because it's obviously a total coincidence and not a serious or rare occurrence?) to suggest it's the result of a "curse"? Just like the other examples mentioned of Despres' and Sutter's injuries right after leaving the Pens happening because of a "reverse curse"? I understand if people didn't find my dumb humor funny, but I didn't think it merited a response that was very serious and kind of hostile, and that also seemed to miss the point completely.

Maybe I wasn't clear or I'm just confused but when I hear "injury curse" I don't think literal supernatural powers cursing the team, but more like "really really bad injury luck, maybe bad luck that is worse than any other team". I don't think there are Pens fans that literally believe in a supernatural curse, but plenty that believe in Extra Bad Luck. I guess I just misinterpreted.

ayrt

Ok, someone made a dumb joke about a trivial injury and got told, "but that injury isn't ~new and ~special!!" Without the clear undertone that the person making the joke is being a special snowflake.

...sometimes I cut sandwiches into triangles. Or, well, quarters. And I always cut burgers into quarters. It makes them less messy to eat.

Triangles are less messy; but the laundry thing is true for too many people. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, COLLEGE DUDES IN THE DORM HALLWAY, LOOKING CONFUSED AT THE LAUNDRY MACHINE.)

I mean, discussions about the supposed Consol curse tend to be followed up by suggestions about exorcism, so. Whether the Pens' injuries are actually due to luck, overtraining (obviously not all of them, but), whatever, statistical evidence (compiled by a neutral party) is a reality, not something that Pens fans are choosing to "believe in." (Whether Pens fans' complaining is disproportionate or excessive is another question.)

I had a friend who had me make his bed for the first semester before he got a hang of it. Love him dearly, but oh my god.

...if you can't figure out how to make your bed, you deserve to go to sleep in an unmade bed. Which I, as a grown-ass but lazy adult, do all the time anyway.
