The anthems were added for patriotism during WW2, iirc.

I assume this is partially to make space to re-sign Panarin? Better hope he doesn't regress.

More immediately, Shaw.

Well... how do I say this... it's been a while, I'm sure their level of patriotism is fine now. :P

Actually, do other countries' leagues do that? Mine only does for playoff finals.

The third round pick is Chicago's own going back to them. That'd be interesting if they had the money to offer sheet someone.

Oh Chicago...

Some recent #Blackhawks cap casualties:
Byfuglien
Campbell
Brouwer
Ladd
Bolland
Frolik
Leddy
Saad
Sharp
Oduya
Teravainen
(to be continued)

I wonder how sustainable their, err, model is in the long run. I assume not very.

I guess it only has to last as long as their core players are good. When they get old the team likely has to bottom out again to replace them since that kind of talent is difficult to get outside of the top 5 in the draft.

They won three Cups. No matter the cost, pretty sure they think it was worth it.
And as a not-Hawks fan, three Cups in so few years is really enough for at least a decade...

tbf they block third party apps because they're often used by creeps to take screenshots while dodging the screenshot alert.

Not only age: until now their core players were relatively cheap. Starting now two of them earn big money, that makes everything else more difficult.

But if you watch the video, the eggplant he mistook for a plum was a variety that is large and thick. (That sounds so dirty.)

Yeah, it's ruthless but the most efficient way to go about it. Not sure even the Hawks would be coldblooded enough to ship out both Toews and Kane in their mid-thirties for a full team blow up though.

Central Scouting "invites" them. The NHL criteria doesn't seem to be available. But this is how the NFL works - http://www.nflcombine.net/faq/how-are-players-selected-for-the-nfl-combine/ and I imagine the NHL process is similar.

Because it's fun? I laughed at most of the suggestions and I think that was the point.

It just took another Stanley Cup for Sid to interact with his girlfriend in public. They seem really cute

I think six years is already the long run in hockey terms, so it could end tomorrow. Not sure why it matters, though. Even if they get absolutely crappy and come in last next year and get the first overall pick, the three cups won't be rescinded or anything. And they'd just start rebuilding.

ayrt

Yeah true, I probably should have said "going from here". I just don't think with their contracts the rebuild will be quick.

na

I mean, obviously three cups makes anything that comes afterwards worth it. No question about that. But the issue is that you either want to contend or you want to rebuild. And the Blackhawks are currently in a position where it seems like they're going to have trouble doing either, no matter which they choose, for quite a while. Not that it undermines anything they've achieved, but it also doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy seeing it happen.

You make the degradation and rebuilding of a team sound like an easy, quick, painless process. It's very much not. No one will think of it as the price of success after years (or decades) of bottom feeding, not the fans nor the people who hate them.

In 2030, they will be angry, but until then, it's not that big of a deal.

People will be angry almost as soon as they start sucking.
