Jaskin made the team for the Czech Republic! This pleases me.

Yeah, they blatantly couldn't care less. As if it wasn't annoying enough to be the also-rans, teaming up with a bunch of random countries who are usually your rivals (guess that one German nonny, the Norwegian nonny and me Danish nonny are all on the same side now!)

True, I'm feeling a lot of kinship with other European* nonnies right now, lol.

If this was an inspiring movie against the ridiculousness of the NHL, they'd win. Alas, this is our cruel reality. I wish the "European" players would say how they really feel about it, lol.

*excluding Finland, Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic of course!! My new bitter enemies! ... I'm just kidding. :P

Same here, nonny! He looked good in the games he played in the playoffs.

There are some question marks surrounding his future with the Blues after this season but I'm hoping he has a place on the team. His shooting percentage was awful. Largely a case of truly terrible luck, I think. (Please don't trade him, Army.)

We're talking hockey media, I'm willing to bet *somebody* will ask.

Yeah, I really hope he gets to stay up next year and he doesn't get traded. He looked really good earlier this season with Fabbri and... crap, I think they had them with Stastny? It's been awhile and my memory is fuzzy. But either way, that line looked really good, but they couldn't buy a goal, and it was especially bad for poor Jaskin.

But he did look really great in the playoffs and I really want them to give him another chance. Especially since Barbashev might make the show soonish, depending on what happens with Backes, and those two were like magic together in Juniors. I really want to see how it translates to the NHL!

(Also, Army, if you could re-sign Upshall and Brodziak that would be excellent. Thanks.)

SCF Predictions Thread

Most of our brackets are lost causes at this point. But why not another go at a guessing game? With more information to educate our guesses with too.

Who do you think:
- wins the Cup?
- wins the Conn Smythe?
In how many games?

Re: SCF Predictions Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-27 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sharks, Thornton, 5.

In my wildest dreams: Pens, Cullen, 7.

Wait, maybe it was Gomez and not Stastny, since that might have been when Stas was out? I can't keep track of any of the lines from earlier in the season because of all the injuries, lol. This is going to bug me now.

Sweden's blueline is fantastic anyway but I question the decision to take Kronwall over Hampus Lindholm (and to a much lesser extent, John Klingberg). Lindholm is arguably a better defensive defenseman than Marc-Edouard Vlasic and would be great with Karlsson.

Sharks in 6. They've been playing a much more consistent defensive game compared to both ECF teams. And I think the Penguins' injuries in the blue line catches up to them this series.

Conn Smythe is a hard one, but I'll go with Couture or Burns, depending on who plays the bigger role in the finals.

I hope Klingberg fans direct their outrage at Kronwall and not Ekholm, who I think really deserves the recognition.

I guess I'll be the first to predict a Pens win. 7 games. Kessel, hopefully, but Crosby is also a possibility if he pots a GWG or two.

Surprised people picking the Sharks aren't putting their money on Pavelski for Conn Smythe. I feel like he's the favorite right now for them.

We're on the same wavelength on the wishes for Upshall and Brodziak re-signings, nonny! If only the decisions on Backes and Brouwer could be as easy. Both of them could command all the money on the open market and both seem to really want to stay. Seems like we're only going to get to keep one of the two. Sigh.

As for Jaskin's lineys, he was shuffled around a bit. I most remember him playing with Fabs and Jori mid-season and not looking or doing too bad. Admittedly I kept a closer eye on Robby's year.

I'm a European nonnie from a country where there's practically no (ice) hockey presence at all, and I'm soooooooooo excited for team Euro. I love all of the European players anyway, so this team's practically tailor-made for me. If only the jerseys were prettier...

Upshall and Brodziak have been so great on the fourth line this year! I really hope we keep them around and don't re-sign Ott. (I'd love for Ott to stick around in some sort of off-ice capacity, though. I like the guy when he's not being terrible at hockey and all the other guys seem to really love him. And I really enjoyed it when he was doing color on the radio broadcasts when he was recommended wrong from his surgery.)

I've come to terms with probably losing one of Backes or Brouwer (especially since we have to re-sign Schwartz), but I'll be really sad to see either of them go. I kind of think it might end up being Backes, which is going to be really weird if it happens because thinking of him in a different sweater breaks my brain. If that does happen, I hope some of the other guys take up the mantle of animal crusader.

Ah, yes, I think Jori is who I was thinking of, actually! Because they kept having tons of excellent chances but it seemed like nothing would go in. And this is where I wave my "Jori Lehtera is totally underrated" flag because he's so good. Even if I occasionally find his choices to pass when he should probably shoot maddening.

I like the European players too which is why I'm all like "THEY DESERVE BETTER!!", lol, I may be a bit dramatic... Either way, I hope they're all having fun at least.

And yes, the jerseys are terrible. Probably was a 5 minute design job. Just another thing showing how much they care about this team...

AYRT Well, maybe they did, and they were on a double date with the two ladies accompanying them. I'd read that fic, for sure.

I appreciated Uppy and Brodz on the PK especially too! Re:Otter, he really does seem great in the room. I found his Zero to Sixty interviews with the guys really priceless. I don't usually listen to radio unless I'm out of the house when games are on, so I missed those broadcasts when he was on IR. I'll hunt them down if I can.

I actually feel like there's a greater chance we keep Captain Backes. It'll probably be on a somewhat regrettable contract if it happens. Him and the Blues only seemed to be apart on term and after these playoffs I don't think either party would be inclined to play hardball in negotiations. Maybe it's wishful thinking though. I was agnostic on the subject of keeping him as recently as a month ago, but the brain-breakingness of him in another sweater has risen exponentially for me.

I like Jori, he's another funny guy. I'll certainly never forget his shirtlessness endearing weirdo chips commercial haha. I think at times in discussions he gets flak for his somewhat bad contract. His level of play has been that of a 2C/3C tweener this year. His two-way play has improved though - leading two of his three playoff goals, if I'm remembering correctly. But I do think his pass-first tendencies and current levels of production are one reason we're either going to be looking for a 1C this offseason or trying to transition Robby there at some point. I'm cautious in my attachment towards him, as I'm not sure of his future as a Blue.

Yeah this is what I was concerned about, but I think Stars fans probably do know how good he is. I don't know why Sweden brought Kronwall.

Yes! Our PK was excellent this year and I especially loved those two and their propensity for breakaways on top of their defensive play. I don't get off work until after a lot of games start, so I listened to a lot of first periods on the way home this year, which is how I caught Otter when he was on the radio broadcast. I can't remember which games, though--it was some point, possibly after the ASG, when Kelly Chase was out of town. I do know I enjoyed him a lot more than Chase, haha. I think it was also around the same time they had him up in the booth with JK during the TV broadcast/when he was doing all the Zero to Sixties? I'll look around and see if I can get a better idea if you don't manage to find them.

I hope you're right, even if I dread them giving him a terrible contract. It does seem like term really was a sticking point with the previous offer, so hopefully they can work something out that won't be too painful a few years down the road.

His chip commercial and his dry sense of humor are sources of immense joy for me, haha. I agree that that's probably the source of a lot of the flak. He was also a bit up and down this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up having a much better season next year. I totally agree that they'll probably be shopping for a 1C this off-season, with Jori and Stas being 2C/3C next season. My guess is that they might try to go for one of the Edmonton guys using Shatty as a trading piece. If they don't try to trade up for Edmonton's first round pick, which I think is also a distinct possibility. I'd be kind of excited to see them transition Robby back to C at some point, but he's been so great on the wing, too. I need to work on the whole not letting myself get too attached to everyone thing, as it is a source of constant pain, haha.

My heart wants sharks in 6 with Pavelski but the playoff gods hate me so it'll probably be pens in 5 with idek, Murray or somebody.
