Re: World Cup of Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
Given the format of the tournament, I'm even more cross about the Team USA selections now than I was when I first read about them. With the two weakest-on-paper rosters in their group, they're probably making it out of the group stage.

If either Russia or Finland had been placed in Group A instead of the Czech Republic team, they could really push Team USA. It'd never happen that they'd put Team North America in Group A (with Canada/US) and Team Europe in Group B (with Sweden/Finland/Russia), but if they had, I could see Team Young Guns giving Team Grit > Goals a run for their money too.

Ugh, I can already envision watching every Group B game and being heartbroken for the two teams that won't make the semifinals. Sweden, Russia, Finland, and Team North America? That is the World Cup of Hockey Thunderdome.

Prelims matchups and schedule are here, for the curious:

IA. I wonder if there's a Sabres nonnie who can give us deets.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
This sure feels like Canada and the US wanted to make sure they make it out of the first round.

Resident Bogosian nonny, can you tell us more? Not sure if you're a Sabres nonny or a Jets nonny or just a fan of perfect eyebrows, but either way, tell us more. /chinhands

The only thing I've had any desire to write lately is super tropey/fluffy always a girl drawerfic. Even when I have other ideas I want to get written. This is getting ridiculous.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

Does anyone know when the players how the set up for this will work? How long before they tournament are players slated to arrive and is there a training camp period beforehand?

Re: World Cup of Hockey

SA That should read "Does anyone know how the set up for this will work"

DA
Yes, that looks like wrestling. Mmmmmhmmmm.

Re: Eyebrow Bracket - Round 3!

So, what I'm getting from this is everyone should write lots of Trouba/Bogosian. Or Trouba/Bogosian/D'Agostino OT3 (possibly where they wrestle and she "referees").

Also, the two of them watching frozen together and Trouba singing along to High School Musical is so charming.

Re: Random Hockey Thread

I developed a little crush on him during the WCF and this just solidifies that.

Re: Writing Thread

All I want is to finish this dang S/G oviposition fic but I feel so dirty every time I get started on it, I can only write a few paragraphs. I think this is the deepest into id-kink I've ever gone, and I have no idea how people regularly write this stuff using their normal pseuds.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

There'll be a training camp for a couple of days about 2 weeks before the tournament itself begins. There'll be some exhibition games too - 3 for each team, some in Europe and the others in the US and Canada. Those will be in the week or so leading up to the tournament.

You can read the full pre-tournament schedule here:
https://www.nhl.com/news/world-cup-of-hockey-2016-pre-tournament-training-camp-schedules-released/c-793114

When the initial rosters were released Henrik Lundqvist said in an interview that the set up here with having a training camp was a nice change of pace. In the Olympics guys basically get one practice.

Geno/Sheary.

Re: Writing Thread

I think a lot of people sock it up or use the anonymous collection. I guess the first time you write a particular kink or act it's more difficult and then it gets easier.

Re: Writing Thread

I'm excited about this!

Re: SCF Predictions Thread

Examples of "odd grammar" please?

Re: Writing Thread

From: (Anonymous)
My idfic has me damn blushing and it's not even smut. I should not be this embarrassed to write this.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
I think they just wanted to make sure there was a balance between groups. They don't look at the rosters the way we do. I remember way back when this whole thing first started being discussed everyone assuming Team North America would get blown out, for example.

Minute 0:46 "Me, Boz and JVR been cold right now." I would say 'are cold right now' or 'have been cold,' but that's an odd use of the perpetual 'be' in a way I'm not used to.

Like, I would not think anything of someone saying 'he been cold,' but that use of 'been' with a time delineation is odd to me. 'Been' in my usage (or 'be') is a state of perpetualness, not something temporary. Like, "They been cold" would be a way of dismissively saying that they've been cold for a while now, not that they are currently and temporarily cold.

Minute 1:10 or so 'shows your group ain't get it done.' I would probably say 'group ain't getting it done.'

I think this is an East Coast vs. Midwest approach to verbs, or possibly the fact that my experience with nonstandard English is clearly a very different dialect than standard US English, so maybe what's weird to me is normal to everyone else?

I have a sock I've used for a few kink meme fills before. I think my problem this time is I'm not even doing a fill, so I have no excuse,

LOL - well, want to be the alpha reader? I could use some excitement about the fic.
