#24 – Not Sure If Serious or Playing Dumba

I'm not even a pens fan, but I still feel bad for Dupuis. 37 isn't old by anyone's but athlete's standards.

yeah, it's ok. The writing is quite nice in the individual scenes but it feels very jumpy as far as character/plot development goes. And the misunderstanding is the kind that retroactively sucks all the tension and conflict out of the story once it's been revealed (which is often the case with misunderstanding plots)

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right thread for this, but deke, how many "favorite teams" do you have? Or how do you rank teams in your head? I have a clear #1, a clear #2 and a bunch of others that I like but aren't faves. Sometimes I think of it in terms of East/West, as in "they're probably my #2 in the Western conference" but in general I have my two teams and then the rest.

I'm asking because my friend recently told me that my team is "in her top 7" and I didn't respond because I have no idea what that means. Is it a compliment? Is she being condescending? Do other people rank their top 7 teams and I'm just weird? HELP ME MAKE SENSE OF THIS, MEME.

Dupuis isn't "done early", though. He's well into reasonable retirement age.

I have one favourite team and then teams that I hold in varying levels of neutral to dislike. I don't rank them. Mostly I have players that I'm fond of on other teams (usually countrymen), rather than the teams themselves.

I have two, which I am ashamed to say aren't even in separate conferences, but I also have a clearly defined top five and bottom five. I wouldn't tell anyone their team is my "fifth favorite team" or anything, but I naturally sort things. And there is that tumblr that auto-sorts for you that is fun to play with and interesting to see how my results shuffle every year.

One team I am a fan of and a bunch I'll watch if the game is on or likely to be interesting. And a few that I loathe.

But the cause of his retirement had nothing to do with his age. He's extremely fit, but will be on blood thinners for the rest of his life.

actually blood clots are a some what common malady for athletes, though not always career ending. Stamkos and Vasileveskiy both had them this year (but seem to be ok so far), and in the past few years Kimmo Timmomen, Tomas Vokoun, and Tomas Fleischmann all had to retire because of blood clot related health issues.

I'm talking about the specific way his injuries (not just the blood clots) and retirement played out over the course of three different seasons. Stankos' and Vasilevsky's clots are pathologically totally different from career-ending clots like Dupuis' and Vokoun's.

I have a #1 East and a #1 West that I love equally and there was a real possibility of them meeting in the SCF this year at which point I would have probably had a nervous breakdown (I mean, regular season games are bad enough).

After that I have a handful of Teams I Like (I even consider myself a lowkey fan, until they play one of my #1 teams), and a handful of Teams I Hate then everything else just falls into the middle of general apathy except maybe particular players that I like or hate.

TL:DR I could probably name my top 7 teams, but the numbers after 'tied for 1' wouldn't mean much.

I've got my team. And then I've got teams I am fond of because they have a player that used to be on my team. I have many more i hate.

On a league by league basis, I have one fave team per, a couple I loathe in each league, and everyone else is pretty meh.

I can usually find a player or two per team I like for whatever reason and several I root against no matter what.

Tomas Vokoun :(
Maybe I have a misleading view because I only got into hockey a few years ago when his career was nearing its end, but I got the impression that a lot of people forget how good he was (or don't remember him at all)

The thing is, while his individual circumstances may be rare, no one retires voluntarily. At least his quality of life should be fine and he should have enough money. He could be a lower line scrub retiring after only a few seasons making league minimum with post concussion syndrome.

I think what's rubbing everyone the wrong way is the way this is being treated as being a uniquely horrible event, instead of something that is affecting Penguins fans particularly.

I think most people only know him from his last little bit, being a back up in Pittsburgh. He's incredibly beloved in Nashville. (I actually have a poster of him on my wall.)

I have one favorite team, a few players on other teams that I like enough to casually follow and root for if my team is not playing, and one team that I hate.
