Re: Ask Meme

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right thread for this, but deke, how many "favorite teams" do you have? Or how do you rank teams in your head? I have a clear #1, a clear #2 and a bunch of others that I like but aren't faves. Sometimes I think of it in terms of East/West, as in "they're probably my #2 in the Western conference" but in general I have my two teams and then the rest.

I'm asking because my friend recently told me that my team is "in her top 7" and I didn't respond because I have no idea what that means. Is it a compliment? Is she being condescending? Do other people rank their top 7 teams and I'm just weird? HELP ME MAKE SENSE OF THIS, MEME.

Re: Ask Meme

I have one favourite team and then teams that I hold in varying levels of neutral to dislike. I don't rank them. Mostly I have players that I'm fond of on other teams (usually countrymen), rather than the teams themselves.

I have two, which I am ashamed to say aren't even in separate conferences, but I also have a clearly defined top five and bottom five. I wouldn't tell anyone their team is my "fifth favorite team" or anything, but I naturally sort things. And there is that tumblr that auto-sorts for you that is fun to play with and interesting to see how my results shuffle every year.

na

Thanks for mentioning the tumblr auto-sorter bc I didn't know that was a thing!

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
One team I am a fan of and a bunch I'll watch if the game is on or likely to be interesting. And a few that I loathe.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have a #1 East and a #1 West that I love equally and there was a real possibility of them meeting in the SCF this year at which point I would have probably had a nervous breakdown (I mean, regular season games are bad enough).

After that I have a handful of Teams I Like (I even consider myself a lowkey fan, until they play one of my #1 teams), and a handful of Teams I Hate then everything else just falls into the middle of general apathy except maybe particular players that I like or hate.

TL:DR I could probably name my top 7 teams, but the numbers after 'tied for 1' wouldn't mean much.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
This is pretty much me also, except my Western team I love more than my Eastern team. There are other players I enjoy but those are my two teams.

Re: Ask Meme

I've got my team. And then I've got teams I am fond of because they have a player that used to be on my team. I have many more i hate.

Re: Ask Meme

On a league by league basis, I have one fave team per, a couple I loathe in each league, and everyone else is pretty meh.

I can usually find a player or two per team I like for whatever reason and several I root against no matter what.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have one favorite team, a few players on other teams that I like enough to casually follow and root for if my team is not playing, and one team that I hate.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I'm the same way.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Same for me, but I have two teams I hate.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
For me:

- Clear favorite.
- Clear second-favorite that I love almost as much.
- #3 and #4 are teams that I don't necessarily love as teams but am attached to several players on the teams and don't hate the teams themselves, though in the case of #4 there is a whole lot of "JESUS CHRIST MANAGEMENT WHAT EVEN ARE YOU DOING???"
- Next is what is probably my favorite team in the other conference.

From there I mostly have vague positive to vague unfavorable feelings about the teams but sometimes really like one or two of the players on the team. Then there's My Team's Rival, which I "hate" for purposes of trash-talk but actually feel kind of neutral about overall (and I've found myself really liking that one player on that team too, damn it fandom). And then there are those two teams in the other conference that irritate the fuck out of me for various reasons.

I have a #1 that is the definite favorite over everyone else, and #2 in the same conference and a #1 in the other conference, both of which I'm very fond of. Then there are a handful of teams I'm mostly fond of, a bunch that I'm neutral about, and a few that I despise.

Re: Ask Meme

I could do a top 7, lol.

In the NHL I have:

my favourite team
then 2 other teams that I also really, really like
then ANOTHER one I like but not as much
AND THEN 2 I'm vaguely fond of, lol.

I have 2-3 European leagues I follow and in those I'm WAY more of a "one team only, I don't care about the rest at best or despise them at worst" person, lol.

SA

Although maybe I'm not even that clear-cut in the NHL because one of my #2 teams is Carolina and I root for them even if they play my faves because I always feel like they need the win more. :x

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Aside from the European teams, this is me, including Carolina.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I've got a clear #1 and #2 NHL team, and then four others I like. The rest I have vaguely more positive to negative feelings about, and those can change quickly.

In my countries highest league, I love my team and all the others are obviously terrible and evil.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have one favorite that I closely follow, a handful that I casually like and will root for when they're not playing my team but don't really follow, a bunch I'm completely apathetic about, and 2-3 I casually dislike. I don't hate any because I'm very bad at hating things.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have 2. Because loving the Oilers is a challenge and sometimes I need some levity (that said my second team is the Penguins which comes with their own set of challenges. But given that I look at the Pens through Oilers colored glasses that's often all the levity I need 😄)

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have one team that's my primary team, that I would buy merchandise for etc (in the West). Then I have an Eastern Conference team. Then I have a bunch of other teams that I enjoy watching but don't root for them unless they're playing a team that I hate.

But overall I just enjoy watching hockey? And will watch whatever I can.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I have three teams that I consider "mine," in that I will buy their merchandise (my car has a magnet of each logo) and actively root for them. But I can sort them very easily into #1 (childhood fave team), #2 (fave team in the other conference) and #3 (rival of #1 I'm ashamed to admit to loving). After that, I'd place at #4 the beloved team of the friend who got me into this fandom, and beyond that it's vaguely neutral feelings leaning toward one end of the love/hate spectrum or the other, all the way down to the two teams I hate with a passion (which, sadly, are both fandom-popular teams).

Mostly I have too much love to give, though, and I have players I adore on every team other than my bottom 2.
