#24 – Not Sure If Serious or Playing Dumba

This is the twenty-fourth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

Rooting interests-wise I'm leaning Sharks, but last summer I speculated on deke that the Penguins might have shot at winning the cup and another anon was such asshole about it that a petty part of me wants the Pens to win.

not quite on your level, but one of my brackets had the Sharks winning it all and my friends loled at me when they saw it so I'm hoping the Sharks win for petty reasons as well.

(I had them beating the Flyers. I have no idea what I was thinking in the East but my West is flawless)

If you think a player should be checked for a concussion in the first place, you don't bring him back after five minutes! You can't determine the answer in five minutes!

ngl, I had it muted for most of the third period and read fic in another tab instead. I had a friend alert me in chat when the goal got scored.

The west coast contingent of Puck Daddy's staff is not endearing themselves to me this evening.

Josh Cooper seems to believe that Patrick Marleau's previous Lady Byng trophies mean he couldn't possibly make a dirty play.

Jen Neale suggested that Matt Murray seek out a Proactiv sponsorship.

(Honestly. I'm not sure if I'm being too sensitive here. So if these aren't that big a deal, tell me. I can take it.)

I don't think these are big deals, but you're in your rights to be Not Amused.

Past awards tend to cloud things. People have favorites, and it just sounds like that.

Murray does have acne. It's a little mean-spirited, that one.

Josh Cooper haaaates the Penguins and has been obnoxious about it for years. Jen Neale does too, but she's made more attempts to be "subtle" about it until recently. She also seems to have something against Murray in particular, she was weirdly smug about his injury against the Flyers.

NA The acne thing seems really mean-spirited to me. But I also had pretty bad acne when I was younger, so I have a pretty knee-jerk reaction to people mocking others for having it.

I didn't see Cooper, but was really disgusted about what Neale said. Come on, lady. We wouldn't get away with that HERE, in this hive of scum and villainy. You work for a major-ish online hockey news outlet!

However, I don't really feel I can say much about it in namespace bc the responses to her (which she's retweeting) are so utterly vile. Way to deflate my outrage, filthy sexist assholes.

My roommate picked the Sharks winning the Cup in their bracket solely to spite me. So if they win, I will never ever hear the end of it.

NA I don't think it's anything personal against Murray, but a lot of Flyers fans considered Murray getting hurt karma for when Megna took out Mason really close to the playoffs. It's an ugly thing to be smug about, but that's how grudges go for some people.

Honesty my first thought was also that even DEKE wouldn't make acne jokes.

I also was a little bothered by it because we try so hard to make female media members more than their appearance. And then she made it about appearance.

Cooper I guess I just feel like it's a dangerous precedence? Like past history is something we take into account. But it also doesn't make you above the law?? But at the same time maybe I should look at it that way - kind of the opposite of a reputation call?

I feel like there's a fundamental difference in the two tweets. Cooper can have all the dumb opinions about hockey that he wants, but by morning there will be a few hundred other opinions on the same topic. What he said is not going to have any direct effect on what DoPS does or doesn't do about the hit.

Whereas Neale's wasn't a hockey opinion. That was just someone making a mean-spirited joke at someone else's expense, and by just tweeting it, the damage is already done.

At least, that's how I feel about it, and why Neale's tweet bothers me but I don't really care about Cooper's.
