Based on a tweet I read somewhere that I cannot find now it certainly sounded like the NHL thought this might happen and is displeased and possibly going to do what they can to keep him from actually playing.

Also and maybe there's a Canadian or lawyer-type nonnie that can chime in - I feel like he might have some trouble getting into the country??

The Voynov thing is so tone-deaf and fucking awful that even r/hockey is mocking it.

Is he even allowed back? Won't he get arrested?

Faksa and Hemsky have had great chemistry for the Stars this year. I'm interested to see if that translates to the national team, especially if they find them a speedy winger to play with. (Though Faksa has also been picking up some of Hemsky's bad habits. I definitely yelled at him for a Most Ales Hemsky Play of the Game at one point during the World Champs after he zoomed off on a breakaway but didn't shoot the puck)

Already annoyed with the Team Europe thing again. Announcing the roster after midnight CET doesn't seem very... intuitive.

Everything else has a reasonable "local time" except Team Europe's "local time" is Eastern. Come on, NHL, fake it harder.

Yeah, they blatantly couldn't care less. As if it wasn't annoying enough to be the also-rans, teaming up with a bunch of random countries who are usually your rivals (guess that one German nonny, the Norwegian nonny and me Danish nonny are all on the same side now!)

Sweden's blueline is fantastic anyway but I question the decision to take Kronwall over Hampus Lindholm (and to a much lesser extent, John Klingberg). Lindholm is arguably a better defensive defenseman than Marc-Edouard Vlasic and would be great with Karlsson.

I hope Klingberg fans direct their outrage at Kronwall and not Ekholm, who I think really deserves the recognition.

Hah, three Germans added for Team Europe (Rieder, Greiss and Ehrhoff)! They deserve it after playing so well at world's. <3 (Okay, as a German nonny I might be a bit biased... :P)

So PEB is repping France. Dang. I did not know how much I wanted both Roussel and PEB on that team until now.

Given the format of the tournament, I'm even more cross about the Team USA selections now than I was when I first read about them. With the two weakest-on-paper rosters in their group, they're probably making it out of the group stage.

If either Russia or Finland had been placed in Group A instead of the Czech Republic team, they could really push Team USA. It'd never happen that they'd put Team North America in Group A (with Canada/US) and Team Europe in Group B (with Sweden/Finland/Russia), but if they had, I could see Team Young Guns giving Team Grit > Goals a run for their money too.

Ugh, I can already envision watching every Group B game and being heartbroken for the two teams that won't make the semifinals. Sweden, Russia, Finland, and Team North America? That is the World Cup of Hockey Thunderdome.

Does anyone know when the players how the set up for this will work? How long before they tournament are players slated to arrive and is there a training camp period beforehand?

And now I'm not going to read the associated article because either it's more infuriating than the pull quote, in which case fuck you, Lombardi, or it's less infuriating, in which case I don't care because fuck you, Lombardi. It's convenient that now I don't have to learn anything about a new GM in order to be specifically mad about the Kessel decision.

I was just wondering, does anyone have any idea what anthem they're gonna play for Team Europe? (And team NA?) Unless they're just not gonna play any which I can't really see them doing.
