What do you block to get rid of it?

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Mostly usernames along with various forms of "reader" and OCs tags. In extreme cases I blacklist the player and whitelist associated ships. Some still sneak through the cracks, but dropping an anti-kudos and adding a name to my shit list comes with its own level of satisfaction.

NA I am this close to just blocking all tags that have OCs in them, but I'm afraid it'll make me miss out on good fic featuring OCs. The alternative is to build up an author blacklist. More effort but no false positives. Haven't decided what approach to take yet.

NA I have "ofc" and "original femae character" filtered out, and I do miss stuff, but it will usually get mentioned here if it's worth reading.

Ha, I'm this close close to blocking first person pronouns. What has this tag become.

Re: Fandom Venting

I just block authors as they come up, so it's not a big time commitment. Plus it's very satisfying to refresh the page and see that whatever was annoying you is gone.

Ugh, and now the shitty Red Wings fic is being posted anonymously. I don't want to blacklist the actual players, damn it!!!

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I'm actually very confused, because the author seems to have posted it twice, once anonymously and once under their name.

I don't want to be That Guy but I feel like the audience for the shitty Red Wings fic is so small/niche (the same people just keep gifting fic to the same other people and the cycle continues) that I don't understand why they don't just post it on their tumblrs or like email it to each other or something. It's not like they're getting tons of attention by posting it to ao3. I also remain confused as to why the wings are the team with the most determined and prolific badfic writers but *shrug emoji*

Tumblr is terrible, especially for anything long, so I would expect people to use that as an archive only after every single other archive option had burned down.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I usually skim by as fast as possible but I was under the impression that most of the stuff being posted is pretty short though. Lots of stuff less than 1k. I get your point though, I'm just cranky.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Most of the stuff is short, but in the 2-3k range. It's not like they're cluttering up the tag with drabbles.

Re: Fandom Venting

Stats nonnie can report that there's been 13 Wings fics over 1k posted this month, averaging 2200 words. I just checked the Detroit Red Wings tag and found one additional fic under 1k, but it's possible there are more that didn't use the team tag.

Because it's hard to find fic on tumblr again, I suppose. It's the epitome for "writing for your friends," though. Ao3 is an archive, so, they're archiving their fic.

I'm kinda impressed that the Wings have that many prolific fic writers. I opened one out of curiosity the other day, and well, I've read worse.
