Re: Fandom Venting

Someone last thread (maybe it was even you) said something last thread about a lot of baseball rpf writers infusing their stories with a ~mystical~ reverence for the game which I thought was a pretty good description of a lot of baseball rpf fic, especially the older ones.

Baseball fic also tends to have a lot more baseball in it. I think because it's a small fandom, people tend to get into it who are already big fans of the game, versus hockey where some people don't even watch much hockey, because the guys become fandom composite creations.

Yeah, agreed. I feel like baseball fic is more about baseball, whereas hockey fic is about hockey players. I would be really surprised by, say, abo baseball fic. (Though I think there was that fic with either ARod or Jeter and tentacles ...)

Re: Fandom Venting

There are a couple of ABO stories, because there's one current writer who pretty much only does fandom tropes/AUs. But yeah, on the whole, the game/sport plays a bigger part.

Who's doing fandom tropes/aus?

Re: Fandom Venting

Telesilla? She's been around slash fandom for decades.

Oh, yeah. Tx.

...does she write BDSM epics like she wrote in SGA? Because I might try baseball for that. I liked her BDSM epics.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Yep. She wrote another Establishment story, and also a vampire one. The latter one still has some baseball but the first one is basically an AU that uses the names and faces, so you don't need to know anything.

Re: Fandom Venting

Yeah, she does, mostly about Tim Lincecum and Buster Posey AFAIK. Think Kylo Ren paired Nate from Generation Kill (in the face) but with the body of like ... a slightly skinnier Crosby. Not my pairing but I can see the appeal.

Oh, Lincecum looks way more like Loki...but with none of the emo of either guy. Think Loki as a happy go lucky stoner.

Huh, he is a little Hiddleston-y in the face, but I think his coloring is closer to Driver's, and they looked more alike when he had long hair. He looks like Hiddleston and Keanu Reeve's baby.

... I accidentally posted this comment on the sin bin and not here. /o\

It's only when Hiddleston is dressed as Loki, not most of the time:

Of course then Lincecum cut his hair and people said he looked like JGL:

I wonder if it has to do with many baseball teams being older than most hockey teams. Organized baseball has a significant head start on history in the States.
