Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Several tidbits meme might find interesting.
1) Teams that have too many NMC to fulfill expansion draft requirements for exposing players would face a heavy penalty in the form of losing picks and/or players.
2) It's believed that $10 million is needed to cover the travel and insurance costs for the players at the Olympics. Gary Bettman said he doesn't see the owners being willing "to pay for the privilege to disrupt our season.” An agreement needs to be reached by January, according to Bill Daly.
3) The Russian federation has now been officially informed that Slava Voynov is not eligible to play in the World Cup.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)The Russian Ice Hockey Federation is holding negotiations with the organizers of the World Cup – the NHL – concerning the issue of national team’s defender Vyacheslav Voynov.

Ugh.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)I don't think they care about world cup, but they do care about others convicting their players and deciding they're not allowed to play. I think this is 99% about power and politics and 1% of them actually wanting him to play in the tournament
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)That's what I was thinking too (and what I meant by precedence, though I realize now that's super unclear), but it just seems like a weird issue to get into a power struggle over. I guess I can kind of see it if I squint sideways and make it about wanting to take power from the NHL even at an event that the NHL runs, but it really doesn't make Russia look good to outsiders, if that's something they care about at all.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)I'm from a country that debates things like these with them constantly. They want to look strongwilled and powerful inside, they don't really care for what the West thinks about them. The measurements of looking ridiculous or powerful aren't the same.

From: (Anonymous)Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)This is why I don't believe it. Feels like their team is just trying to build a public case for the tournament being inherently unfair or something.
Re: Hockey Media
From: (Anonymous)I'm thinking even more cynically than you are -- I wouldn't be shocked if they used this as an excuse to not participate at all.
