Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.
From: (Anonymous)(This is not to say that the Montreal media wouldn't out someone or that they're not horrible, because they really are, and I have no trouble imagining them doing something that shitty.)
Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.
From: (Anonymous)Based on skimming the first couple pages of "alex galchenyuk domestic violence" google results I think you're correct the actual media didn't go there. I guess all the victim-blaming made me assume somebody doubled down on the awful. (Even the reddit thread doesn't go there, although SO FUCKING MUCH "he cheated, she hit him, how is that domestic abuse?" and "why was he partying at 8 am after a loss?" bullshit.)
CW from hell on all links and "abandon all hope ye who enter here" if you read the comment sections.

How the fuck does a *local* news article misspell Devante's first name in this? (otherwise pretty unobjectionable.)
http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/canadiens-alex-galchenyuk-addresses-domestic-violence-incident/
“One thing we can’t forget is that those are young kids,” Therrien said. “They’re going to learn from it. They’re human beings. Yes, we want them to be role models, we want them to be perfect, we want them to perform, you know? But at the end of the day, we can’t forget they’re kids. And, at times, all kids make some mistakes. The most important thing is that they learn from that.” sounds pretty much like victim-blaming to me.

Galchenyuk's situation became like many victims of IPV when he was asked by a reporter if he should expect consequences for his role in what happened. He replied with, "No. It’s an incident in my personal life and that’s what it is."
Take a second to think about how this story would have been covered had he been the one to punch his girlfriend in the face. Why is he not afforded the same respect as the victim instead of the perpetrator?
Also, is it just me or does this paragraph make any other nonnies cringe?
This isn't to say Galchenyuk is a saint. He knows the truth of the situation he put himself in. "He was asking for it" is not a defense. He is still an (alleged) victim of domestic violence.
(same article, Jen Neale wrote it for whatever that's worth.)
Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.
From: (Anonymous)Okay NOW I know why I thought that. There's not a source given, but this article *does* specifically mention that some Montreal media did accuse Galchenyuk of cheating with Smith-Pelly.

Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.
From: (Anonymous)I definitely recall furor about Montreal media making what sounded like an insinuation about Galcenyuk and DSP, though -- I don't think it was in an article, it was in a question that was asked him (either in a press conference or media scrum), and both the question and answer were reported on twitter.
Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.
From: (Anonymous)But men crash at each others' places all the time and I don't think it's something that would really occur to the media. The way I read that question instead is they were asking if the reason DSP and Galchenyuk were sleeping in the same room was because of some sort of heavy intoxication, drug-wise.
