Like people believe that because they're focused on playing, they won't make good choice regarding their life partner. The contract are a way to give them something to look for when they retire and not end up lost and depressed, etc..
So Larkin and Ekblad know they'll be married some day, but they never really thought to much of it, and then they meet at the game, and sparks fly, and wham bam, they get caught in the thrill of fucking that person who's kind of destined to them? And even if they had sex with others before, there is a weird dirty feeling with this unplanned, pre-marital fuck.
