Ugh none of the final is doing anything for me. NBA/AHL is going to be a sweep. NHL Pens 4-1. Good news draft day is coming gonna see what type of train wreck my team is going to end up being. Woooo hooo.

I have 0 confidence my team is going to do anything interesting or good this offseason, and I'm already tired of reading league-wide trade and draft speculation, tbqh. Combined with a disappointing SCF result (probably) I just want to speed up time to get to next season already.

Do you write fic? That's what I'm hoping to do with my offseason. That and maybe watch actual scripted TV.

DA

What actual scripted shows are even worth watching right now? I don't like GoT, I don't like the CW DC universe, I tried watching Gotham and no, I've already watched Daredevil and Jessica Jones....

Peaky Blinders is good.

Hah, I have no idea. I'm like five years behind. I've got an entire list of old stuff I want to watch.

this is me, I'm still trying to finish Friday Night Lights which aired...10 years ago now? Yikes. I kind of don't have patience for dramas though, I can binge comedies pretty easily but have a harder time finishing shows with a lot of heavy shit involved.

I'm kind of the same. It gets too intense and then I don't want to watch anymore, even if it's really good! It seems like the only shows I can watch anymore are formulaic basically warm-fuzzy stuff like due South and Leverage.

Yeah, FNL is soooo good and I know it's good, and it entertains me most of the time, but then something Sad happens to those nice boys and I switch to Bob's Burgers to forget the pain, lol. Hence why I'm still on season 3 after watching it on and off for way too long.

Re: Game Day Thread, June 6, 2016

I have tons of patience for drama and heavy shit but still found FNL to be a hard show to binge watch. Mainly because of the unevenness caused by the show's difficulty finding its niche and the constant cancellation drama, but also because of little things like some irritating actor tics and the fact there's only so many times you can watch a football game being decided at the last second by a hail mary pass, an obscure rule, or both. Probably the only thing rewarding about binging the show is that you get a de facto supercut of Coach/Mrs. Coach and all the times Riggins was an intense lolzy badboy weirdo with a heart of gold.

I'm glad it's not just me, then. The first season was almost perfect imo, but the second really dropped off in terms of plot development and quality too (see: anything that happened to Landry that season). I still want to finish but sometimes I feel bad for struggling through a show that so many people think of as the Best Ever.

(also my fandomy heart wishes there was at least one gay character. I know it aired in 2006 and those characters had enough problems without having to be gay in Texas, but come on writers. that would be more interesting to me than just watching Julie Taylor being a dick to Saracen 5ever)

Better Call Saul, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the first ep of Preacher was promising, the Night Manager was really good, etc.

I miss Joss, too, nonny, but you should broaden your interests. Try some non-scifi/horror. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is good. (Also, you didn't mention it, but I assume you are up to date on Agent Carter?)

I've also actually watched all of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. I do need to catch up on Endeavour? I, uh, rarely watch outside of sci-fi/fantasy/mystery/crime, though. I almost universally hate comedies, and anything too "soapy" makes me really bored really fast.

And I actually haven't watched Agent Carter or Agents of Shield, but that's mostly because I also haven't watched any MCU movies since the first Avengers. Daredevil and Jessica Jones work for me because thy're more divorced from the rest of it, but.

Agent Carter is set in the 50s, so you should be okay to watch that without following the MCU.

Seconding this. It does have Howard Stark in it, whom you should already have encountered in CA:TFA, but even if you haven't you can pick it up from context. It's a really fun show, especially if you love pretty period shows with mad science. Or the first season is really good, anyway; I haven't watched the second.

I started watching an interesting show on netflix called Dark Matter. Only one season (so far?) and for a totally syfy kind of plot it's surprisingly well done so far (4 eps in)

Re: Game Day Thread, June 6, 2016

I honestly haven't tried that one entirely because I remember from SGA that Joe Malozzi is an asshole.

Na
I'd rec Dark Matter, too. Neat show.

UnReal is my favorite. The second season is kicking off tonight and it's just as savage.

iZombie is pretty good. It is DC (via Vertigo) and on CW but not connected to the other comic shows on there and has the showrunner from Veronica Mars if you liked that. I also like Elementary a lot.

And not scripted, but at least this year the Olympics are happening to take up some of that post-free agency lull.

I think I'll be devoting my summer to trashy reality tv and reading real books. I live a balanced lifestyle, you know ;)
