Re: Kinkmeme Talk

From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Eh, but someone just prompted exactly what's currently being filled via two active WIPs. Not really sure how much more they want.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)They said they want it to start out "angsty and kind of scary," so actually it sounds like they want to see exactly what the two active WIPs gloss over. Which is a normal impulse for being inspired to prompt something.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)I feel like this is a question of audience. If you're super into a kink, then you might want all the possible variations of it that you can think of. That's how it works for me, anyway. OTOH, if you read the first one or two tentacle fics out of curiosity and you're over them now, then probably that wasn't your kink in the first place, and it makes sense that you're bored. But it doesn't mean other people who are into the kink are bored. In fact, if they're still prompting it, probably they're not.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Right, which is why people saying that if these prompters want to see more of x, they should just write it themselves are misguided. I get the frustration about the prompt to fill ratio, but no one's prompting with the expectation that they can just demand someone else write what they want, and extra oviposition prompts might clutter the meme but they aren't gonna derail someone from filling another prompt they would otherwise have filled (or if someone does choose to fill another oviposition prompt instead of something different... that's their choice to make).
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Yeah, I really don't like the idea of there being some kind of expectation that you should write a fill for every X many prompts you make. For one thing, some people here are just readers, which is perfectly fine! A fandom needs readers! I would hate for anyone to feel discouraged about prompting to the kinkmeme because they didn't feel like they'd written enough or something.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Hell, I'm not just a reader, but I am amazingly fucking bad at writing porn. If you want action and dialogue that fades to black, I am your girl. If you want explicit porn, I am really, really not.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Well, there's a 50% less chance, since I'm one of the people writing those fills and I went "uh, was my multi-part oviposition fill that's almost exactly what you're prompting not good enough?" If they don't like it, that's fine, but it seems like they could wait a little while before prompting basically the same premise again.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Also, as a filler I wouldn't start filling a prompt with two such similar ongoing ones right now anyway, so it's just poor timing all around.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Sorry. :(

From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)I meant that writing is harder than prompting, and that "More!" can sound more like not good enough than a compliment. I'm happy that you feel there's an even give and take, but that hasn't been my experience, and while I'm not writing either of the fills right now, I've found a very similar occurrence to be pretty disheartening in the past.
So, yes, engaging positively is important. Not everyone needs to writing for it to be a positive experience. However, asking for the 37th present while people are working on 35 and 36 isn't really fair.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)I'm sorry you had that experience. :( I guess my point is that you can't necessarily tell from outside who's prompting and filling what. I once talked here about hoping people would write more of kink X, and someone responded to me to say I should think about writing some myself. I did not feel like deanoning to say I'd written the last fill that had been posted. :P So I have a bit of a sore spot on the subject. But yeah, I can see how it could go the other way around, too.
Re: Kinkmeme Talk
From: (Anonymous)Well, I've been wanting more tentacle fics, all of the tentacle fics, since, oh, I discovered tentacle hentai in the late 90s, so....
When you're really into a kink, you're really into a kink.
