The repetitiveness of the prompts is kinda killing me though. The fills are great and unique, but sometimes it feels like prompts are just unoriginal stuffing, tentacles 'n' eggs, brocest, Your Fave Pens, repeat. Like, it doesn't hurt anything, but... we get it. Interest has been established. Write something of your own if the two simultaneous fills that more or less fit your prompt aren't to your particular liking.

If I prompt something that's similar to something that already exists, it's usually because I want more, not because I didn't like the other stuff.

Eh, but someone just prompted exactly what's currently being filled via two active WIPs. Not really sure how much more they want.

They said they want it to start out "angsty and kind of scary," so actually it sounds like they want to see exactly what the two active WIPs gloss over. Which is a normal impulse for being inspired to prompt something.

I feel like this is a question of audience. If you're super into a kink, then you might want all the possible variations of it that you can think of. That's how it works for me, anyway. OTOH, if you read the first one or two tentacle fics out of curiosity and you're over them now, then probably that wasn't your kink in the first place, and it makes sense that you're bored. But it doesn't mean other people who are into the kink are bored. In fact, if they're still prompting it, probably they're not.

Two people did, actually (although one was more different than the other). It annoys me a little because the ratio to prompters and fillers is seems very uneven. It's great that they want more, but the difference in investment between wanting/prompting more and actually writing more isn't insignificant.

Right, which is why people saying that if these prompters want to see more of x, they should just write it themselves are misguided. I get the frustration about the prompt to fill ratio, but no one's prompting with the expectation that they can just demand someone else write what they want, and extra oviposition prompts might clutter the meme but they aren't gonna derail someone from filling another prompt they would otherwise have filled (or if someone does choose to fill another oviposition prompt instead of something different... that's their choice to make).

Yeah, I really don't like the idea of there being some kind of expectation that you should write a fill for every X many prompts you make. For one thing, some people here are just readers, which is perfectly fine! A fandom needs readers! I would hate for anyone to feel discouraged about prompting to the kinkmeme because they didn't feel like they'd written enough or something.

Hell, I'm not just a reader, but I am amazingly fucking bad at writing porn. If you want action and dialogue that fades to black, I am your girl. If you want explicit porn, I am really, really not.

For all you know, the person who prompted it is writing one of the fills. I both write and fill my favorite kinks on the kinkmeme. I'm not sure what you mean about "difference in investment," though. To me, more important than someone writing for the kinks they prompt is that they respond to people who fill the kinks they prompts.

Well, there's a 50% less chance, since I'm one of the people writing those fills and I went "uh, was my multi-part oviposition fill that's almost exactly what you're prompting not good enough?" If they don't like it, that's fine, but it seems like they could wait a little while before prompting basically the same premise again.

Also, as a filler I wouldn't start filling a prompt with two such similar ongoing ones right now anyway, so it's just poor timing all around.

*raises hand* I'm the one who wrote that prompt everyone's talking about, and I'm really sorry, nonnie - I definitely didn't mean to imply your fill wasn't great. I've been loving your fic. I honestly didn't realize how similar my prompt was to your fill until I'd posted it. da was right - when I was thinking about it, I was mostly thinking about the angsty and scary aspect, although I guess I didn't do a very good job of conveying it.

Sorry. :(

Thanks, and sorry -- it's not really that big a deal, I just had a little author ego huffiness, so let us bond together over loving oviposition and dudes who like it more than expected. :) Hopefully someone will write the angsty fill you want!

Re: Kinkmeme Talk

From: (Anonymous)
I would be happy to bond over that. :) I have been daydreaming about that to-be-posted fourth part, fyi. Like, has it occurred to Sid that if he keeps growing like this, the eggs are going to be bigger coming out than they were going in? I feel like he hasn't thought of that.

Re: Kinkmeme Talk

From: (Anonymous)
Heh, I do have a little something planned for that, when I get the time to finish. Currently Sid is just enjoying his newly-discovered belly kink. :D

As am I. :D

I meant that writing is harder than prompting, and that "More!" can sound more like not good enough than a compliment. I'm happy that you feel there's an even give and take, but that hasn't been my experience, and while I'm not writing either of the fills right now, I've found a very similar occurrence to be pretty disheartening in the past.

So, yes, engaging positively is important. Not everyone needs to writing for it to be a positive experience. However, asking for the 37th present while people are working on 35 and 36 isn't really fair.

Re: Kinkmeme Talk

I'm sorry you had that experience. :( I guess my point is that you can't necessarily tell from outside who's prompting and filling what. I once talked here about hoping people would write more of kink X, and someone responded to me to say I should think about writing some myself. I did not feel like deanoning to say I'd written the last fill that had been posted. :P So I have a bit of a sore spot on the subject. But yeah, I can see how it could go the other way around, too.

Well, I've been wanting more tentacle fics, all of the tentacle fics, since, oh, I discovered tentacle hentai in the late 90s, so....

When you're really into a kink, you're really into a kink.
