One minute Daley is a reclamation project, the next he was a deal that totally fleeced Chicago. Pens fans need to make up their damn mind.

Opinions may vary within fanbases? I remember a Pens fan saying they thought GMJR would lose his job over the trade at the time. Others were over the moon.

It's inarguable he's done far better in Pittsburgh than he did in Chicago, whether that's system, coaching, or just a coincidence of luck.

He was a deal that totally fleeced Chicago because they had to dress one of the worst players in the league as a result of the trade, and he was a reclamation project. Dealing Scuderi for a pile of cat vomit would have been a deal that fleeced Chicago; instead we got a nice reclamation project. :)

subthread OP

I honestly just hate hearing any player (or even any person tbh) referred to as a "reclamation project." It grinds my gears more with Kessel because Kessel was always a great player, arguably the Pens' best player in the playoffs and also because of the accompanying baggage of fat jokes/other things being discussed in the thread. But the Pens didn't trade for Daley in order to make him their "reclamation project," either. They identified a player with value that wasn't being put to use, one whose strengths (which were familiar to a lot of people, although not necessarily Chicago fans) would suit the Pens' needs. It's smart GM-ing.

"They identified a player with value that wasn't being put to use"

I think that's exactly what people mean when they say he was a reclamation project, though.

ayrt

I realize what they mean, it's the connotations of the term I don't like.
