What's meme's opinion of Check Please/omgcp?? Some background:

1. I've read some of it and the format seems like something that might fit my life now. (I'm home with a new baby so I'm looking for things that I can pick up/put down with ease but also have a fair amount of content because sometimes I'm holding a baby for a long time or awake in the middle of the night with only my phone and a mostly sleeping infant for company)
2. I'm mostly curious if the story is well-written enough/mostly not terrible in a way that I won't feel like it's totally wasted my time. It doesn't need to be brilliant (see previous getting sleep in 2 hour chunks.)
3. I've seen it discussed here and know it's "controversial" I'm just curious on meme's opinion on if it's worth dedicating the time despite that.
4. The hockey rpf tag is a sad place right now and I need something that isn't an actual book to read :)

It sounds like you already have enough information to decide for yourself, but if you just want additional opinions, I'm sure meme can provide some scathing ones.

It's cute and light, but there isn't very much of it, and there's a lot of additional content via in-character twitters and the like that can be annoying if you don't like following those.

I don't actually want team USA to win or anything, but after seeing so many posts/tweets about how they're the most horrible team of all time or whatever, (in terms of hockey, not Torts and his bs) I can't help but smile a tiny bit when they...aren't actually awful.

They're honestly not that bad. They could just be better.

It sounds like you think there's more substance/content than there is. Even with frequent breaks to take care of your baby (congrats, btw) I don't think reading it will take up that much time. I can't remember how long it took me , but it can't have been more than a few hours total. But it's cute and fun and I think it's worth giving it a shot. If you hate it you can come here after and complain, lol.

Oh, they could definitely be better. But certain people have been smugly acting like it's a team that's so bad they're going to get blown out every game, just because they don't match their vision of what makes a "good team". I'm not a fan of super physical play either, but that doesn't mean the team is a bunch of talentless goons or anything.

The more I see details like players wearing stickers of their NHL teams on their helmets I cringe (it's cute, but still). And things like ~Team North America~ ~Team Europe~ and the fake national anthems, lmao I hope the players aren't falling for it and still demand to go to the Olympics. The NHL can stand to lose money for two weeks, it actually irritates me so much.

Also I was watching Stephen A Smith talk about Torts and the anthem thing and he said if players representing the National team want to kneel, they should, because representing the US is not a private interest like representing your NHL team (or any national league sports team), so it should be allowed...but seeing as this whole tournament is organised by the NHL for NHL interests, it pretty much is a private interest thing, right?

I was on the "this is stupid, but at least it seems fun" camp until today. Now that Seguin apparently injured his knee in the last game, I totally agree with you.

I bet they watched it the same way I'm "watching" this US/Finland game. It's sure playing on my tv, but I'm sure not paying a damn bit of attention to it.

ROR for Seguin seems like not that great a trade.

I know Team Canada is all about centres, but poor Taylor Hall.

Personally, I found it oddly hard to follow. Too much of the story was in places that wasn't the actual comic, and I was apparently supposed to backread Twitter archives and the like to get it, and seriously, fuck that that shit.

I also found it to be way too stereotypically seme/uke for my tastes, but that's a personal thing. ...still, if small, blond, bubbly and emotional guy meets tall, dark, stoic and repressed guy is not your kink, you may also have that problem.

(ayrt is a stars fan which may or may not be the reason for my current opinion about this "tournament")

Not badly at all, Canada has enough skill depth.

Honestly, if I'd discovered it after it was finished I probably would have thought it was just fine. The long breaks between updates, sekret twitter info, and its fandom acting like it's so much deeper than is on paper, so to speak, really turned me off it.

This gets its own thread? Really?

I know, we've been trying to conserve threads (reduce reuse recycle!), but some people just gotta be all about the conspicuous thread consumption.

+1 to all of this. There's just not enough there there, and I had a really hard time following the emotional beats because so little of it actually makes it onto the page.

DA If someone can be bothered to make a thread for it, sure why not? There isn't a limit on the number that can be made.

It's just been mentioned elsewhere and there's already a place for it.

At least they have another game to try and work things out. ROR was at 2015 Worlds which McLellan coached, so hopefully that's make it easier for him to work out where ROR fits.
