Here's his statement http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/patrick-roy-statement-589887871.html

Patrick Roy Statement
DENVER, CO, Aug. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - Patrick Roy, head coach and vice president of hockey operations for the Colorado Avalanche, has issued the following statement:

"For the past three years, I have carried out my duties as Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche with energy, passion and determination.

I have thought long and hard over the course of the summer about how I might improve this team to give it the depth it needs and bring it to a higher level. To achieve this, the vision of the coach and VP-Hockey Operations needs to be perfectly aligned with that of the organization. He must also have a say in the decisions that impact the team's performance. These conditions are not currently met.

Today, I am informing you of my decision to leave the Colorado Avalanche organization. Though it saddens me, I have put much thought about this decision in recent weeks and have come to be fully comfortable with it.

I am grateful to the Colorado Avalanche organization, with which I remain in good terms, for letting me lead this great team. I thank all the players I have had the pleasure of coaching and the fans for their unwavering, unconditional support.

I remain forever loyal to the Avalanche with which I played 478 games, coached another 253, and won two Stanley Cups."

Patrick Roy does not intend to comment further on this announcement.

Holy mackinoley. If they get a good coach in, they could be yet another brutal Central team. They've certainly got forward skill.

Alternate headline. Patrick Roy quits in the most Patrick Roy way possible.

Weren't there rumours about him disliking Tyson Barrie? If this turns out to be Roy taking his toys and going home because Barrie got a 4 year contract I will laugh my face off.

DA

Yeah, pretty much. The rumor was that Roy likes big, bruising defensemen and Barrie is too small (Barrie talked about that repeatedly after the arb hearing, suggesting it came up a lot) so he wasn't a huge fan of him.

Re: What's up with Your Team: It's August Edition

From: (Anonymous)
Please know, what I got from your comment is that Roy was really into rough sex with his defencemen and that Tyson just wasn't big enough to hit his kink. I now have a mental image of EJ and Beauchemin sitting round having a beer and complaining about how many minutes they have to play and that they have to take car of Roy after and Beauc talking about he's too old for this shit.

I mean, I have been looking for someone to ship Tyson with but that's a little much for me. Still hilarious.

AYRT I think it could be very funny but probably one for the Sinbin.

(For Tyson shipping on the Avs there is Nate or him and Gabe have a pig-tail pulling thing going on. Eric Johnson took him to the Kentucky Derby. You could go with ROR too. Non-avs you have the Benns and the Schenns to start with.)

AYRT

I think that's my problem with shipping him, there are a lot of options! Which is the best one? He's kind of slutty.

I know that an author I like is planning to write him and Gabe so I'm leaning towards that, hoping that fic inspires me. Someone should make a primer.

Re: What's up with Your Team: It's August Edition

AYRT - Then the answer is all of them, if Tyson doesn't need to choose nor do you.

I'd love to see Gabe/Tyson so I hope they do it.

There's a very behind the times corner of my heart that still wants Barrie/Seguin at worlds because they're each intrigued by the dude Jamie spends so much time talking about, but I sense you're looking for more of a long term option.

Re: What's up with Your Team: It's August Edition

From: (Anonymous)
AYRT Yeah that's a bit too random for me. I feel like there are lots of people he's closer to that make more sense than Seguin. Jamie himself, or even Jordie; they have the same birthday!

He's got this whole network of Victoria boys. And there's Biz, of course. https://www.instagram.com/p/BIF3jflDOQb/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BHpdfTxB6iM/

Am I a terrible person if I want the Habs to hire him next?

Well, that's what everyone figured would happen a year ago. Now that the GM has said about 80 billionty times that Therrien isn't going anywhere, it will be interesting to see whether that holds or not.

No, you aren't or I am too it would be so wonderful.

(The Avs still haven't confirmed his exit. Maybe Sakic's cup rings are in his ears.)

I am actually going to miss him, he was very entertaining. Now for maximum amusement they need to hire the guy the Wild fired.

Mike Yeo was already hired by the Blues.

Sakic speaks.

Sakic said he was "definitely caught off-guard" by Roy's decision, so much that it took him a few seconds to comprehend that he was resigning. Sakic said Roy had been contemplating the decision for weeks but repeatedly denied that the two disagreed over personnel decisions or didn't get along.

"Patty was always involved," Sakic said on a conference call Thursday evening. "Especially early he was a big help to me. He was always involved. He was aware of all the decisions we were making. To be honest with you I think that's a question that you'll have to ask Patrick, but I know we talked about everything."
