I'm watching this on espn3 right now since that it the only method it is available in the US, and there is no commentary...it is very strange

Maybe they forgot to switch the mic on.

Mine was like that too and I was actually enjoying it! Haha. Reminded me of going to AHL games as a kid bc you can hear the players yelling to each other.

Re: Game day thread 11 Sept 2016

It was slightly disorienting since I don't really know the numbers, but I kind of liked it.

Did team Europe get lost? That was painful.

I'm not sure changing goalie is going to fix anything.

I need Dylan Larkin to get traded to a team I already cheer for. He's super fun but I don't have time to be a Wings fan.

Same nonny. I desperately tried this winter, but in order for me to genuinely care about a team, I need to know a lot about them and I've already got 2.5 teams.

This is the sound of this Wings fan's heart breaking. What sort of info are you guys looking for?

Fun things?? I don't really know anything Wings related beyond Dylan Larkin, Babs once upon a time, Lindstrom, Shanny and that they sing along with Journey in the third period.

As a team they've always seemed kind of old?? Which prob has to do with the great teams of the 90's and those years being my formative hockey years.

Whenever I think about this dumb tournament and team europe I have to hold back a rant, lol, I can't wait for this to be over. :/

Do you guys think team NA will do just as well vs other teams? I think it's kind of obvious the NHL gave them the "easy" opponents in the prelims to get people more excited to watch, but do you think they'll be able to beat the other teams in their group? I think Sweden's defense will give them some trouble, but they're so fucking fast. Idk.

Re: Game day thread 11 Sept 2016

Bold prediction: they go all the way on the same philosophy as the Penguins. It doesn't always look pretty, but I think it's really effective even against the "best" defenses (Washington, San Jose, etc.)

Re: Game day thread 11 Sept 2016

From: (Anonymous)
Please allow this to happen in the NHL as well. Give me speed and high skill plays and less, less, less grit and truculence please and thank you.

Re: Game day thread 11 Sept 2016

From: (Anonymous)
Considering that team NA is pretty much the future of the NHL, that seems pretty likely to me.

Re: Game day thread 11 Sept 2016

They're going to get murder both US and Canada are playing dirty. Some of the hits thrown are dirty and painful.

Like Gaudreau said, you can't hit what you can't catch :)

There's also a good amount of size and feistiness on Team NA. Drouin is a little punk to play against, he drove the Penguins crazy in the ECF. The defensemen are mostly pretty big, MacKinnon has size and gets nasty, Couturier and Trocheck are scrappy...They're not actually adolescents, is my point. They get hit all the time in the NHL.

I can see Team USA especially losing their shit over, say, Drouin's smack talk and slashes while he dances around them more than I can see Team NA getting overcome by size and grit. They're not going to get pushed around.

Tbh I think it'll come down to goalies. And that applies to all teams. Halak could take Europe to the final.

I just got home, so I missed the first two periods. I see the score is currently 3-5. Which North American players have scored? Are there any fantastic moments that I've missed, nonnies?

Matthews has had some fantastic moves. I think the best of it is being giffed in the r/hockey thread for the game.
